Which one means more for his legacy all things considered? Juan Marquez or Victor Ortiz? :think

Ortiz was a better win I think.

Marquez had never fought at ww before and was jumping 2 divisions, you could plainly see he wasn't carrying the additional weight very well - plus Floyd cheated the catchweight and enjoyed significant advantages in reach, height, and fightnight weight.

Although Ortiz is an inferior fighter to Marquez, he was a big welterweight and had proven himself at the weight by taking Berto's zero and his title.

I vote Ortiz, Floyd-Marquez is a pretty meaningless win IMO.

    JMM.

I've actually come to appreciate that win more, now. Mayweather didn't hold that 10 pound advantage like we all initally thought he did, and JMM's subsequent performances - all be it at lightweight - prove that he wasn't as old and faded as some like to make out. Not to mention, Floyd didn't even use his size and strength to outclass JMM the way he did. It was pure skill.

Marquez was 144 in the ring, Mayweather was 152. Throw in Floyd's reach and height advantage, and it's a significant all-round size advantage.

Ignoring the Ortiz ending. The Ortiz bout is the better win.

Ortiz is not even close to being on Marquez's level, but taking size in to consideration...it has to be Ortiz IMO.

Now lets say we were talking about a Mayweather victory over Marquez at 135lbs, it would be a completely different story.

I've changed my mind now.

Just messin'. His performance was still impressive; considering he'd just come back from a two-year absence.

Marquez only went up two pounds? I didn't know they took their weights after the official weigh in for that fight. Do you have a link? That's pretty interesting. I didn't even think Floyd let them take his for that fight.

Marquez was 144 at the weigh in. The unofficial weights were not released. However, it would be fair to say Marquez gained at least 4 to 6 pounds between the weigh in and the night of the fight. Finally, Mayweather weighed 150 the night of the fight with Ortiz. Why would he have weighed 152 against Marquez, which was two years ago? My point is that the weight was not an issue because they were the same weight the night of the fight and because Mayweather beat Marquez with pure boxing skill.

He sucker punched Ortiz for the win then got told by an 80yr old that if he was 50 yrs younger, he'd get his ass kicked.

Didnt attempt to make weight for the Marquez fight.

Forget enhancing his legacy, these will have a negative bearing on how he's judged.

    FAO ALL:

The Ring magazine stated after the fight that Marquez went up 2lbs to 144, and Mayweather went up 6lbs to 152.
