Did anybody even watch the fight tonight!

Judging by some of the posts I read, nobody has given an analysis of what occured.

Heres how I saw it......Through the first six rounds, Trinidad established the tempo and yes, outgeneraled Jones around the ring.

I dont know what some of you watched, Trinidad was actually outjabbing and outworking Jones around the ring.
Trinidad worked the jab, and used that jab to set up terrific body and head shots.
Trinidad did alot of scoring to the body that seemingly went unoticed by the HBO team and apparently the judges

......on Jones part, he fought the first half as if he was saving himself to go the distance.
In the 7th, Jones scored with a terrific right hand on the inside that caught Tito on the temple and sent him down on a delayed reaction.
.....but where was Jones when Tito got up???
He did'nt press the action when Tito was hurt.
.....Trinidad recovered and went on to outwork Jones in the next two rounds.

Up to the tenth round where Trinidad got dropped again by a balance shot, I thought that Trinidad was on his way to winning a decision.

    Here's how I scored it.....
Rounds 1,2,3,5,6,8, and 9 for Trinidad.

    Rounds 4,7,10,11,and 12 for Jones.

7 rounds to 5, but since Jones scored two knockdowns, my final tally was 113-113 a draw.

My summation on the fight is that although Trinidads shots caught Jones attention, at 170 lbs, he just did'nt have the physical strenghth to force Jones to retreat.
Trinidads lack of physical strenghth at 170 lbs caused his workrate to diminish in the last 3 or so rounds.

Trinidad was really putting alot of effort and torque on his shots when he punched, but he was unable to physically move Jones back, even as he scored.

In any case, I have no doubt in my mind that Roy Jones is a shot fighter. He had a physically inferior fighter in front of him that he let outmanuever, outjab, and outwork him for most of the fight.

Luckily for Jones, Trinidad punching at a naturally much bigger man wore on Trinidad.

Hopkins, Calzaghe, Taylor, Pavlik, Tarver, Johnson.....all these guys would hold there own and them some in the strenghth dept against Jones, and like Trinidad did for almost 2/3 of the fight, they all would outwork him.

Jones since the first Tarver fight has been lacking in workrate, and its gotten even worse now.......its like he knows he cant fight 3 minutes of every round now, and he's just letting fighters outwork him.

No question in my mind that Jones is done as a major player in boxing.
The first knockdown of Trinidad was a good shot that hurt Trinidad, but the second knockdown was a little flukie....a Jones jab put Trinidad off balance, and the right hand which did'nt have much behind it sent Trinidad down, but Trinidad was'nt hurt by that shot at all.

Had it not been for that flukie KD, Trinidad would have been the winner on my card.

As for Trinidad, I'd like to see him try his hand again at 160 lbs.
A Pavlik fight would really interest me at that weight!

You think Tito won the fight?

Lol. No way dude. Tito lost that fight. Tito didn't win a round after the 4th.

    Standing over him.

Or is your argument that Tito was winning off of his back?

    I had it 7-5 for Jones. (115-111)

Trinidad was landing a lot of body shots, true, but Jones was also catching many with his gloves and almost connected twice what Trinidad landed in the rounds Jones won.

I had Trinidad taking most of the first half but Jones took over from there.

Yeah, I believe that the HBO team mentioned that Jones was catching alot of infire with his arms and elbows......sure he did, but alot of it got in as well......Trinidad also slipped and blocked alot of Jones shots as well.

Trinidad was the much busier man for the first 2/3 of the fight, and actually I think he scored with the cleaner more consistently harder shots.
Jones of course, could load up and score with a harder shot than Trinidad. He's a more powerful puncher at 170 no question, but consistently he was'nt nearly landing as much cleaner harder shots than Trinidad through the first 9 round.
The last 3 rounds, no question....Jones was holding back and saving some for the end.....but I look at each round individually and score as such.....

You 4Rounder gave me a score, and I can respect that, but I get the feeling that a great many posting on this fight tonight did'nt even see the fight, but only the results.
I have'nt seen any of them post any scores.

The fun part is arguing over who controlled what and what they're scores were......but all I hear is "Yeah, I pretty much thought Jones would dominate, yadda, yadda, yadda!

You disagree, tell me why and post a score!

I dont have a problem with anybody scoring for Jones, but I dont think the official scores were indicative of how close the fight was.

Trinidad even mentioned it in the post ring interview, he said, "I can accept the loss, but those scores were way off, the fight was much closer than that!"......and I agree!

    117-109.

I gave a Rd by Rd in the chat.

Trininad was dominated past the 4th. KDed twice. Countered pummeled beaten. Jones was watching a lot of his shots. Tito rarely landed cleanly all night. It started to remind me of Winky-Tito. When Tito started winging shots at Jones guard and not landing anything.

This was a completely different fight than the Winky fight.....I believe I only gave Tito one round against Winky.....against Winky he looked like he was handcuffed. Winky offset any and all of Tito rhythm by just keeping a steady jab in his face......
....it this fight against Jones, Trinidad actually looked comfortable and let his hands loose.

Plain and simple, I believe too many of you listen to an always biased commentary at HBO, and just take their word for it on the matter.

I'll repeat, for a great part of the fight, Jones was just plain outworked.
.....and this is bullcrap about Jones fending off Trinidads shots....too many of them got in for my taste, that I just had to give the round to the fighter with the better workrate.

....and btw, some folks around here (you know who you are) dont know how to read, or just cant comprehend......I scored the fight a draw!

    116-110. First viewing.

I usually make some minor scoring tweaks when I watch fights a second time.

117-109. That was an easy win.

Roy showed a little bit more than expected, but as Lampley said, it's easy to look good if you are fighting another old fighter who hasn't stepped in the ring for 3 years. But Roy at least showed that he has SOME chance in a world title bout in SMW or LHW and a fight with the winner of the Hopkins-Calzaghe is possible.

Hopkins would outbox him easily, Calzaghe probably stop him but with this performance tonight Roy at least bought a ticket for a superfight in September. It's a shame that this fight will happen instead of a Pavlik or Dawson against the winner but money talks and Roy earned SOME creditability tonight. Mayweather-De La Hoya and Bhop/Calzaghe-Jones fights are looking to be inevitable for autumn. It's not bad at all but could be better. But that's pro boxing.

As for Trinidad, I didn’t expected a KO loss at all and he showed a big heart while loosing his third fight easily. This comeback was another short one but how many of the biggest names could say that “I’ve lost only to 3 legends in Hopkins, Wright and Roy Jones”.

So saturday night wasn't a bad night for boxing. Just... it wasn't PPV material in 2008...

I only gave Roy round 4 in the first 6 but then he took over, I mean rounds 8 and 9 were close but Roy impressively closed those rounds and did a little bit more damage. So 7-5 RJJ in rounds + 2 knockdowns
