youre entitled to your opinion. i say that for a rubber man, he was at his rubberyest,... in the legs, when his chin was touched...

That's cool, keep going off something you believe to be true rather than taking facts on board, seems to be your thing :good

Charlie Magri, his whiskers let him down badly at times.

Do you rate his chin as very good/great?

Whilst I agree he never suffered a heavy knockdown and always bounced up and came back well I've got my doubts all of his knock downs were balance related.

I recall his very first knockdown against Daniel Alicea when he appeared to get tagged with a solid right hand, kept mixing it up then got tagged again and dropped while both feet were planted solidly on the canvas. He appeared genuinely stunned from the first punch to me and the knockdown was a direct result of that.

I think Augie Sanchez and Kevin Kelley both hurt him as well but clearly he was very dangerous when hurt although I'd only class him as having a decent chin.

But I agree he certainly doesn't belong on this thread.

Prince Naseem had a fine chin. He got outhustled and bullied a bit by a great fighter in a fight where he still snagged some rounds. That was his only loss. Barrera didn't murder him or anything. His chin never looked shaky to me. He took some big shots, but I wouldn't say his chin was suspect at all. He had made boatloads of money, taken it as far as he thought he could, and retired happy and rich.

    Good on him.

Naseem had one of the better chins in boxing. Down but never really hurt. Not once was he staggering or bandy legged. Nor did he struggle to make the count at any point.

Agree with all of this. I would say he had a decent chin. IIRC against Alicea he got caught square on.

Hearns was already great, but he would have been nearly unbeatable with a sturdy chin.

Tommy Morrison with a chin would have been something else...before he got AIDS, anyhow.

I mentioned him in a similar thread but Tony Mundine would've been an ATG if he had've had a chin like Bennie Briscoe or Marvin Hagler. He had speed, power and skills, pretty much all the tools but either his chin or ticker let him down time and again

It's unfortunate for Mundine but it makes you realise that the greats needed so much more than just talent to succeed at the highest level in the toughest sport of all.

:goodcouldn't agree more. There have been thousands upon thousands of fighters with all the necessary traits but one

If he was fighting today Tiony would clean up but not before being KO'd unexpecedly. A few defences later he'd be KO'd unexpectedly. Then win another title. Then be KO'd again. etc etc

Gerry Cooney might have been great if he had a chin.

Carl "The Truth" Williams. Seemed like he had all the tools to succeed Holmes and go on to be a great HW. But alas, for that bone china chin.

Hearns was not a very good fighter who would have been great with a sturdier chin. He was a great fighter who would have been even better.
