We all know JMM is a warrior and its not easy keeping him down but against Floyd we all know he was out of his element weight wise and seemed very tentative at the beginning of the fight. Floyd didnt seem to have that much ring rust and looked good coming off his longest layoff.

Do you think Mayweather could have taken him out if he wanted to or is JMM just that difficult to knock out?

Mayweather could have knocked him out if he really, really, really wanted to, but that goes for most of his opponents anyway. He would have gotten hit on the way, and he doesn't like to get hit if he doesn't have to.

That being said, I think that within the parameters of normal Floyd behavior, he was trying to lay it on thick and get a stoppage. Marquez just wasn't going anywhere.

I don't think he went all out to KO Marquez. He tried for the KO but realized that Marquez is tough to KO. Maybe he could have got him out of there if he let his hands go. Marquez is just difficult to KO.

See i think if Mayweather would have been more aggressive Marquez still wouldnt have endangered him despite more opportunities to counter. Floyd that night was just two steps ahead of him in everything and it wouldnt have taken much to force a stoppage. He just didnt do it cus its Floyd.

    Don't think so

Marquez style isn't open to too much punishment

Floyd wasn't using the right style that night to get a KO win

    I believe so.

Mayweather post 130 hasn't been much of a closer. That is the difference between Whitaker and Mayweather imo. Whitaker might of been slick, but he wasn't afraid to stamp his authority on proceedings by staying in range and trying to close the show, which is kind of why he got put down by Roger Mayweather, he was so in-control he started taking liberties

Ray Leonard was a closer, Mayweather has never been imo. He doesn't have that killer instinct.

Mayweather tried to stop Mosley more. Of course not all out, within his style.

Yea i think he carried him

he dropped him with ease and hit him with incredible accuracy and if he put a combo together probably could have got a TKO

i think it was just him getting rounds he was out for a while and wanted to get his legs back

Mayweather clearly carried Marquez. He was just trying to get rounds in. Look at how he walked down and threw hard shots against much bigger dangerous opponents like Ortiz and Mosley. Remember how serious he was against these guys.

In the marquez he was smiling the whole time, dukcing and dodging and making Marquez miss bad. It was clear he just wanted to get some work in and have fun.

That's what I mean. Even when Floyd tries to put his foot on the pedal, he seems reluctant to stay in range and get his shots off, he will still try to maintain long range to guard against potential counters, which is the sign he's not a closer imo. A closer would stay in range and take the risk so he could force the stoppage.

Marquez is solid, he's open to flash knockdowns but not to serious hurt.
Bare in mind that Floyd was only pot shotting, or landing a two punch combination, there was never a flurry, or a savage body attack. Floyd fought safe and took the UD.

I don't think pro fighters carry other pros, it's too big a risk. The guy can land a single shot that you don't see coming, and ruin your whole career, so anybody with half a brain won't leave someone around longer than they need too.

No. He was winning and he would've liked to KO him but wasn't working hard on it to make it his main priority.
