A while ago, you replied to me about the picture of Monzon near my name and said you'd be interested in doing a piece on him, either on TV or a book. At the time, I think you only had the radio show but now that the boxing hour is back on the box, is it possible you could try and sort out a special piece on him? I think you mentioned something similar about Napoles too, so maybe that could happen as well? As it is now, the boxing hour is a great show and I really enjoy watching it, but I'm sure many boxing fans would love to see a piece on some of the greatest fighters of all-time, which is why I posted this here so anyone else can show their support for the idea. I'm pretty confident you'd be in your element doing it too If it's not possible, then that's fine. I'd certainly love to see it, if it is possible though. Cheers, mate :good
Nice post, from a fine poster. BUT I as a boxing fan am sick to the back teeth, front teeth & tonsils of hearing about the old fighters, theres enough tributes about them all already on YT without Bunceys show turning into a nostalgiafest too! I dont want to see Buncey turn into the new Colin Hart!
Monzon was unbelievable, beating Benvenuti twice, Fernandez twice, Valdez twice, Griffith twice, Briscoe, Napoles, Licata (who beat Hagler in the amateurs)... And yet, little is known or heard of him in British Boxing circles. Carlos deserves a tribute. We've all heard of Marvelous Marvin Hagler, Sugar Ray Leonard, Sugar Ray Robinson, Roberto Duran, Muhammad Ali, Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano, Rocky Graziano, Jake LaMotta, Jack Dempsey, Jack Johnson, Henry Armstrong, Henry Cooper, John Conteh, the Finnegans, and Lloyd Honeyghan. But Carlos Monzon was the greatest middleweight of all-time, bar none, and is not a recognized name in British Boxing. Would be justice to do a little tribute on the geezer. He smoked 60 a day and had an alcohol dependency from start to finish in his career, which makes him all the more amazingly unique.
I know absolutely nothing about Monzon, apart from that he was unbeaten! and that he's in your avatar. I've not seen any of his fights, and i don't know his life story as such.
Monzon was no Hops and might be similar to Hops but...... Griffith was a welterweight and Nino Benvenuti was an Oscar (left handed orthodox). Reverse Pac in laymans terms. Hopkins conquered the weights above.
I think it's a great idea as long as they cover the less mainstream fighters. Give exposure to great champions like Monzon, Napoles, Saldivar etc and also a bit more coverage to the smaller weight catagories.
I think it's important that we don't lose sight of the history of boxing, there are posters on here who are more knowledgeable than others...:yep I think that it would be great for Ringside and the Bunce Hour to run articles on the history of boxing, it would give their shows another dimension as long as it is presented well...:deal
Yep, Hagler for me. I think an occasional documentary feature would be a good addition to the channel, definitely. Kinda on a ''Legendary Nights'' theme, could have a British series then an overseas one.
