I don't know if anyone here besides a few(McGrain, TGA, SS, klompton) have actually seen Mike Gibbons, but I recently saw this fight and I have to say: these guys look like well schooled and talented boxers. It's rare that you see two defensive specialists that are this aggressive in a fight that could easily be a stinker. Highly recommended if you're interested in the era.

Various action scenes from the fight. Notice the revolutionary use of camera angles.

Yeah, perspective wise this really looks more like something from the 30's or 40's, reminded me of Corbett W Jackie Fields in that regard.

O'Dowd was really impressive to me. Speed, left hand play, right to the body, good blocking.

Mike O'Dowd is possibly the most under-appreciated middleweight champion ever.

    :good

That was impressive. So much for the old timers being crude and unskilled huh? Also, you almost never saw an out of shape fighter back then. Whether skilled or crude, the fighters always seemed to be in great shape. I thought you needed a conditioning guru and extensive weight training program to get in shape....I'm being sarcastic of course but hoping to make a point.
