I would say Gavilan is vicious enough, and varied enough, to unleash a devastating flurry on punches on Hearns.

I would say Gavilan would have a very good chance of stopping him in the later rounds, or if he doesn't, punching out a decision. He's an unpredictable fighter, something Ray wasn't for most of his fight with Hearns. He waited, Gavilan wouldn't IMO.

Hearns would have a hard job keeping Gavilan at bay IMO. Firing him up is asking for trouble, and with the durability and stylistic variety, I'd pick him to do the better work.

I can see the flip side entirely. It'd be an unbelievable fight.

Napoles, Hearns, Rodriguez, Leonard, and Griffith are all genuine 50:50, or at the most 55:45 matchups either way. That's good company to be in.

I don't think Griffith could get that done i'm afraid. Apart from physical strength he's lagging behind in every category outside of power, which isn't going to matter here.

Yeah, Griffith too methodical and jab orientated, though he would dominate any inside stuff.

What wins did Hearns have at welterweight to be favored against Gavilan? Now, 154 lbs is a different matter.

That depends on whether you think Hearns drastically improved by adding 7 pounds to his frame or whether he was just facing more favourable opposition at 154 in comparison to Ray Leonard.

Gavilan took on Middles as well. Hearns at his physical best? Yes. But Gavilans attributes would remain the same.

Hearns was stronger there though, so I'd go for the points verdict others are throwing around this thread. But Gavilan still ain't going nowhere.

Maybe some obvious stylistic advantages but the disparities are minimal. I see a series with Gavilan going similair to the Rodriguiz fights with The keed getting the better of it nonetheless.

edit: by stylistic I mean Gavilan as a stylist if that makes sense

The list is short but he's not invincible. Great movement and akwardness. Just checked out a short video on him. I don't think I saw him throw one jab. For a 5' 10' with a 71" reach his lack of a jab is going to hamper him. I know this is going to make some of you mad but the cloest current comparsian to him is Paul Williams, who all things considered is not a bad boxer but would be better much better with a constant jab. So would Kid Gavilan.

Quality. As always, ripcity bases his opinion off a highlight video.

I think you'll agree Gavilan would not punch in time to a piece of 'somba' music.

How badly would Gavilan batter Floyd?
