Guerrero weighed 152 on fight night against Katsidis. Burns won't have that same luxury.

 

:shock: I always thought Guerrero was about 5 ft 10! He looked huge even at lightweight.

I'm not as confident in my pick of Katsidis as I was when the fight was first announced I have to say. A prime Katsidis would be a big favourite to win imo with his style- the relentlessness and good power he can generate at lightweight should put him in with a big chance vs an ex-SFW with little punching power of his own.

BUT- the signs vs. Guerrero were not good. I strongly favoured him in that one given that I don't rate the Ghost too highly but his balance looked poor, he seemed pretty sluggish and was being countered at will. Now the power in Guerrero's punches must be considered a factor in that as they did discourage Kats and Burns won't bring that element to the table. However, he is a fundamentally sound boxer and a good chin on him; what he needs to do better in my opinion is use his height advantage to control the tempo of the fight behind his solid jab.

If so his punch variety has been shown to be good enough and I feel he may sneak a points win. He's shocked me before so I wouldn't be overly surprised to see him do it again. However, that is if the Katsidis from the Guerrero fight turns up IMO. If he isn't really as shopworn as he appeared in that, I'd still favour him strongly because he is such a beast at times.

 

im a fan of both fighters , im scottish so maybe im a little biased but ive already said to certain members on here and too billy nelson that i think burns will win by doing what nobody expect him to do....trade with katsidis and beat him on workrate.

holyfield's win over tyson is the blueprint for this fight.

burns is faster with his hands and feet , his workrate is also better. Katsidis though will reach burns without much of a problem so burns WILL have to trade in this fight.

i think burns will match katsidis for 7-9 rounds but he has to be smart and tie katsidis up when needed (a la holy vs tyson) , burns is also fresher so in those late rounds he can use his speed of foot to get in and out alot easier and see out the fight with his faster combinations.

Will Ricky Burns go from struggling against a midget from a country where boxing is banned to beating Michael Katsidis? Hmmmmmmmmmm.

 

If a British fighter is to lose then lose to Katsidis is the best result for me.

Katsidis is the favourite theres no question about that . I think the most likely result is that he will stop Burns inside the distance . Probably mid to late rounds . Its a tough first fight at LW for Burns . That said i fully expect him to come to the ring in great condition and certainly wont be small at the weight . I wouldnt say Rickys feather fisted as such and he seems like a guy who fights better of the back foot . Personally although i think Katsidis will win i think Ricky will last longer than Mitchell and it will be a more competitive fight .

 

I am thinking of withdrawing a few grand from my ISA for this fight. Knocking out Nicky Cook in one round might well decieve the Jocks in to thinking Burns is some sort of invincible Power Puncher, but Im with the Greek on this one.
