This is a video of me sparring with a guy at my gym (I am the guy with the head guard)

I had a sprained right hand so am just jabbing and covering up but would like your advice / tips on anything I am doing right or wrong. Just so you know this guy I am sparring with is 12 KG heavier than me. I am a bit of a novice sparring wise, not had much experience at all so any feedback is very welcome. Thanks!

Not sure how i embed the video - any advice on that and I will do it.

I sparred a bit when I was younger but not loads, so I think that helps make me look a bit better as a sparring semi-novice but literally not sparred in 8 years. I am 68KG which is 149lb.

Fairly decent jab but the other chap is that bad it's a bit pointless trying to pick apart a video

Yeah the guy you're sparring is absolute rubbish, it looks like he uses a kickboxing style defence, he's definitely no boxer. He just rushes forwards throwing **** punches with no purpose while leaving his body open for a hammering.

I thought you was the tall guy at first  but you're not half bad at all

pretty good. Decents jabs also, try to put some more speed with it. When he finishes a combination dont just take hits then move around the ring, when hes moving back you jump in with your combination. Try not to stay body squared also

Put it this way - your boxing someone with shin guards on- I could put a video on here of me ali shuffling against a lad who does MMA and you'd think I was the next ray leonard. Good fundamentals would take your jab away. Lead to you getting hit more reguarly. You'd be countered when you drop your hands etc etc,

Appreciate the insight and I agree but Im not trying to be the next ray leonard - i just wanna get a few tips on what Im doing wrong. You said good fundamentals would take my jab away - can you elaborate a bit i.e. how do I solve my flaws so that my jab cnt be taken away as easily???

I think the general consensus is I need to spar more with better boxers to improve as a boxer - which completely makes sense doesn't it!

Thanks for all the other replies by the way guys.

It's a short video.. you had your hands below your chin when you were in range alot of the time, if the other guy had any idea how to box you would've been eating punches continuously. Whenever he did his silly little rushing thing at you you had your guard up too high leaving your body exposed, if he had heard of a body punch you would have felt some pain. When you're sparring a taller guy like that you don't want to bring your arms up that far to protect the top of your head, keep a tight guard and bend your knees, if he punches you on the top of your head it's going to hurt him far more than it'll hurt you.
The left hook that you threw a couple of times was slow and threw you off balance, try not to lean into, pivot with your foot and twist into it with your elbow high when going to the head.
The most important part of throwing that hook for you is to remember to not turn your head when you throw it, that completely kills your balance and power.
Your movement and jab seem okay, when you jab though remember to not pull your right hand back at the same time.
Both of you guys in the video should definitely try more controlled sparring, focusing on technique, combinations and counter punching. That wasn't beneficial work for either of you, both of you need to calm it down and start at the beginning before trying to 'fight'.

You're a star pal - thanks for your advice, I would agree with everything especially my guard being down when in range and to high. Cheers mate.
