Official Poll James Toney vs Denis Lebedev

Hoping James Toney wins, and then quits boxing.

Lebedev probably takes this, though TJ is looking in great shape.

 

Toney, easy work

 

My head says Lebedev all the way, but my feeling says Toney. My feeling seldom let me down, so I'm a go with Toney here.

 

Toney will bust him up. Toney by mid round KO

Toney is just too slick to him and will be the New WBA Cruiserweight champion of a world little more than two weeks time

lebedev ud, fatass foney has no chance!

 

Flashback to 2003, when a past prime Toney showed up practically out of nowhere to beat up Vassily Jirov in a FOTY candidate. I know that's 8 tough years ago for Toney, and he certainly has not as much left as he had then, but then again Lebedev is not nearly the fighter that Vassily Jirov was.

 

Again, my head lebedev but my heart is saying Toney by big tine schooling.

In Toneys favour
1. He looks as good as he has in years
2. Stylistically he matches up well against lebdev basic right in front of you style
3. When Toney is in shape he usually performs well
4. Shot Roy jones was beating lebdev according to one judge in his fight before the ko.

Now for the points against him
1. He's old (43) and sounds worn with his slurry speech
2. He's lost a helluva lot of weight and might effect him in his old age, although Glen Johnson has shown in old age going down in weight can work although Glen always seems in good shape, Toney is always balooning overweight.
3. Lebdev is sevearly underated and is virtually unknown to many.
4. Lebedev is seriously heavy handed and broke future heavyweight contender - Marco Huck s - ribs in the 4th round of their fight.
5. Lebedevs only loss has come against Huck in a SD loss in Berlin where many thought he was clearly robbed
6. Has a big KO ratio
7. Toneys last great performance was well over 7 years ago.
8. Fight is in Russia, so if it goes the distance you could expect biased judges.


There are other factors I've missed but for the reasons above Lebedev should beat Toney. BUT if Toney can really turn back the years and perform like he has 7 years ago he should win.

I personally think he's just too old and lebedv is hard hitting.

I want toney to do it, but a guy with so much hard living and at 42, this is where you look an say well maybe today is the day it all catches up to him. This is boxing, hard living catches up eventually everytime. Fact.

 

I wonder if Toney will still be effective in rounds 10, 11, .. ...
