Jake Lamotta vs Ray Leonard who wins?

Yeah, Leonard would certainly have his hands full with LaMotta. What do you expect from the general forum? They prove Roger Mayweather right.

Good point about Leonard needing to plant his feet. Robinson could do serious damage on the backfoot. LaMotta was a huge middleweight, where as Leonard peaked at welterweight and wasn't the same fighter by the time he fought at 160 and above. An aging Leonard won a still-disputed decision over another aging fighter in Hagler, but we're talking about LaMotta in his prime here, right? Big, extremely strong middleweight, iron chin, clever pressure fighter. Hid well behind his shoulders and used upper body movement to avoid shots, or lessen the impact.

I would not count out as great and adaptable a fighter as Leonard, but he'd have a tough assignment ahead of him.

 

lamotta was tougher IMO then duran, i see jake pushing srl around an beating him, maybe even stopping him. At middleweight, the fights i seen of lamotta has me believe he wins

 

Prime LaMotta by KO between the 12th and 15th round. It's Leonard at 160 not at welter.

 

SRL all day, as long as he boxes. If he lets his pride get in the way like he did with Duran 1, he could find himself in some hot water.

LaMota could box, and Robinson was way better than Leonard. Look at records, look at film, he beats Leonard easy, in fact would dominate him.

 

Lamotta, in their second fight, beat Robinson in his absolute peak, and was the only person to do so in that 10 year period of like 100 fights. He was obviously someone who could give Ray Leonard trouble.

 

Leonard would beat the living **** out of Lamotta, how is this even an actual question being asked.

This thread is shocking! Where on earth did people get the idea that Lamotta was some kind of crude brawler? Lamotta, who loved to fight out of a crouch, was a pretty refined boxer who possessed an outstanding jab, and could bob and weave with the best of 'em.

If Lamotta could consistently hit Robinson with double jabs and left hooks, you can bet your ass he could hit Leonard. Robinson was a little better off the back foot than Leonard, and probably a hair quicker. That means Jakes constant pressure would work better against Leonard than it did against Robinson.

Assuming we're talking about Jake Lamotta of the early 1940's vs SRL at 160, no matter what the end result, this fight would be far from one-sided. I would actually be tempted to make Lamotta circa 1941-43 a slight favorite over SRL circa 1987-88.
