Dunky I am a very proud scots man and feel everyone should support home nation boxer . now I think Billy would have been a good option but billy chose not to be involved bearing in mind he said he was his trainer . now as Young has help Craig out in the past as his good friend and Craig word was he was in the best shape he has every been when Young helped him before but Craig also has his own fitness coach aswell . now the word back from Mexico is Craig is looking exceptional and is boxing the head of angullo and they think Craig would be to good for Qullin . so instead of looking for negative dunky try given the young lads some support .
excuse me FMJ the only reason im not with Craig is ive Ricky Burns fighting for a world title, now any coach in the land given the choice would do the same as i have. Burns never misses training and is totally commited.
Mate someones telling you porkies, this imo isnt the right fight for Craig and if it wasnt for certain reasons im sure he wouldnt have took the fight. i know what level of fitness Craig was at too and the timescale he had to get fighting fit didnt add up,again only imo. Listen id love Craig to win for his 2 wee boys and himself, good luck to him and Gary. But please get your facts right, theres two sides to every story.
FMJ, you're pushing against an open door with old Dunky and I have to rush to his defence here! Like you (and me!) the boy MacCafferty's loyalties to all Scottish boxers are beyond question. How many times have we watched Scottish talent in all areas of sport "self-destruct" much to the (unnecessrarily unrestrained) amusement of our cousins south of the border? But Duncan is a late convert to the cult of Nelson (though I recall he was once a committed agnostic) and for good reason. Ricky's success over the last few years has been amazing and only a fool would grudge Billy the praise he has rightly received for his part in that. But there is more than one way to skin a cat, just as there is more than one way to train a boxer and ,thank ****, it will not be me, you, Billy or Dunky who will step into a boxing ring on November 5th, gloved up and ready to go. So let's have some faith in the judgment of our boxers. Ricky has chosen Billy and it has worked for him in spades! But Craig and Billy didn't work out so Gary Young is on the job. Everyone has to start somewhere and The Bottom is where dreams start. Craig is coming off a loss, fighting in Mexico, against an American fighter who is tipped for mega-stardom. Show me a Scot who doesn't think that that is a certainty and I'll show you an Englishman!
Thanks for the post Grendal, very insightful & appreciated as always:good To be honest Im a wee bit saddened by FMJ's reaction, I never meant my post to hurt or offend anyone. Trouble with me though is im just worrying about Craig, cos he hasnt had the lucky breaks so far & I was sure working with Billy was going to be the right kind of trainer at the right time, so hearing it had went tits up left me down in the dumps a bit, & its nothing personal with Gary Young, its just his lack of experience that bothers me. Nothing would please me more than Young proving me wrong though & turning Craig into the finished article, cos hes nearly there! The Lee fight showed the world what Craig is capable of, he was exceptional in that fight until he gassed at the end. Maybe Im over-reacting, its just cos I want the best for Craig, cos I know he can be the best. Simple as. Lets hope Gary Young can be the man to make the final adjustments that make the difference:good Theres a reason I was happy about Billy training him, it wasnt about getting Billy to say "err thanks Dunk" on this forum It was because in the Lee fight, Craig was brilliant taking the fight to Lee, & showed a whole new dimension to his game:deal Now thinking of the work Billy has done with Burns, turning him from a slick boxer to more of an all-rounder fighter & improving his power & punching on the front foot, I thought it was the perfect recipe for Craig too, as Craig showed in the Lee fight that the potential is there for Craig to do damage taking a fight to someone. Thats why I was championing Nelson, nothing sinister!
and while we are here folks, my best mate has just uploaded the finished final version of a King Kenny Anderson montage(if I remember right hes not with our Billy anymore), just to prove that we arent biased http://www.youtube.com/user/robertholland26#p/a/u/0/JrxRvIfdOCM
ahh come on TFFP, us jocks are having a jock discussion but I didnt want to leave you out using the Lee defeat is a cheap shot. Craig was bossing that fight until he gassed. Sometimes **** happens in boxing, & **** happened to Craig that night. Tired himself beating on Andy, what more can I say? If you want to believe Craig running out of gas against Lee confirms hes an awful fighter in your mind? All I can say is that you shouldnt read too much into defeats. Brits have an unhealthy obsession with unbeaten records, & often write off fighters too quickly after they suffer a loss. hardly a groundbreaking post, I know. It rings very true though.
Dunky I think that you have answered a lot on your post now and so has Billy he made a fair and honest statement that he was busy with Ricky which is justified . now I think maybe Young has just step in to help his pal who ask him to help him train as when he fought Lee he was left to do it on his own hence the reason he came home to Edinburgh now only time will tell if he done the right thing. I hope he has and I hope Gary Young and McEwan do have a great time and come home winners but one thing for sure they will still be great friends . Billy you maybe right maybe time was not on his side but when you need money and the only way you can get it is by having a fight what would you do now your not stupid Billy you no both Craig and Rab read these post so do you not think it would have been nice for them to hear Craig going to win we all behind him instead you wanted to say imo this is not the fight for Craig
I like most on hear think I am genius when it come to boxing but its only my opinion but the biggest problem I see is the boxer has not got a say 100% on who he boxes he can only box who his Manager or promoter says which rightly or wrongly is the way it is until they become the champion then they do have a say ,now guys like Billy no how it works as he been in the game a lot of years so people do hang on there every work which is often correct but they do get it wrong ask billy bookie and he agree but sometime when its a tough fight the boxer and his camp want to hear positives not negatives which is why so many voice good post we can all be clever dicks when it suit us but surely its easier to make all the told you so after the fight and wish the boxer all the best from Scottish fight fans
Grenal i spoke to Caig regarding this fight mate, what your forgetting i know everything that was said between myself and craig your getting secondhand info.of coarse i hope he wins, but to say we never worked well together is pish and Craig will tell you that. Make no mistake Craig would still be in my gym if both fights weren't on the same night! thats boxing sometimes
Billy I have actually agreed with you as I stated you made a fair and honest statement about the reason you could not train Craig on this occasion .now so not to confuse think billy i would have done the same .my point was try given Craig some positive comments not negatives . billy you really need to accept that your not always right and do get things wrong like we all do it maybe good that you think your going to be right and say Craig going to lose but why do you need to actually come on hear and say it .I do think Craig will win but I wont come on and say I told you all as it not me that boxing its Craig
And Billy, can I just point out, in case its getting lost here, that Craig has never asked you to be in his corner in Mexico. He knew that Ricky was your top priority and respected that.
