I honestly think Bute will dominate* Johnson comfortably. I hate to say it but The Road Warrior really isn't that good, I'd be very surprised if Bute fell for the basic moves Johnson employs when trying to land the right.

*Well, as in he'll win rounds with relative comfort, not that I think he'll decisively beat Glencoffe from corner to corner.

It's not a matter of ranking for me, it's a matter of who beats who.

When Degale met Smith, Smith had beaten better opposition; so should that have made Smith the favourite?
It didn't because Degale had shown that although he had only beaten weaker fighters; he had shown in those fights that he had the potential to beat better opposition and then some.

This is the same I feel with Bute, I know there's a lot of hate for him which do skew opinions of him, but Bute has shown me enough that he could give a damn good match against the other super middleweights who have beaten better opposition than him.

This reminds me of when Alvarez fought Rhodes, many people were adamant that Rhodes would win because Rhodes had fought better opposition, but I was saying the same things (about Alvarez) talking about how it's not just the importance of how good the boxer is that you beat, but just as important how well you beat him!

And as predicted Alvarez slaughtered Rhodes.

Gary Russell jr could be used as another example.

Now Johnson could easily land a big right and it's lights out for Bute (I hope not) but that shouldn't change the fact that at this time Bute vs any of the top super middleweights, Bute would give them one hell of a test.

The Smith-DeGale situation makes my point for me.

Smith wasn't favourite but he was ranked higher than DeGale and that was correct. It was up to DeGale to prove he was, as many suspected, better than Smith and THEN get the higher ranking. Not get given the ranking on unproven potential over a fighter with better wins and thats the situation that Bute and Froch are in. Froch has better wins so is ranked higher until Bute does something about it.

TBH I don't remember that many people picking Rhodes over Alvarez for any reason (other than perhaps patriotic wishful thinking).

It would be nice if Bute actually got off of his arse and proved this in the ring rather than scrotes like you just blowing him off. :thumbsup

I remember the poll and threads for Alvarez vs Rhodes, it was pretty unanimous for Rhodes to win.

Again maybe it's wishful thinking for Froch, getting the patriotic vote and plus he's a British ESB type fighter that is loved on here (a high ranked fighter who is is not very connected with the casuals, so we take to him more).

Anyway I'm sure Bute will get it on and at least prove without doubt he is one of the best against some top fighters.

His fight coming up is a step in the right direction!

It wasn't unanimous. I voted in that poll for a stoppage for Alvarez. One of the few fights I got right...;-)

I agree the support for Rhodes was probably patriotic but I don't think Froch getting ranked over Bute for having better win falls into the same category. MAYBE a poll who would win H2H would get skewed by Brit votes but not the ranking side. Thats pretty clear cut IMHO.

I can kind of understand with Froch been ranked ahead of Bute, to an extent atleast.

But anyways I am a Froch fan and hope he beats Ward, but Froch losing wide UD is my feeling..... It's just a Froch vs Bute would be some fight.

Lets say Bute looks good against Johnson and Ward beats Froch.

Froch vs Ward two unbeaten guys would still be a huge fight!:bbb
