I'm surprised anyone says Mosley is ancient, OK he is 36 but far from past it! Cotto has most of the tools required, but could be considered chinny, and with a big enough puncher would run into trouble. Mosley has a lot of KO's, but mostly these are by wearing people down rather than blasting them out, which is what could happen to Cotto given time.
+ Well, you raise a really good point when you say that overrating/underrating a fighter is subjective, kirk. I mean, if you think that he's the best fighter in the world, then yeah, you're overrating him...but if you think that he's a damned good, p4p caliber fighter, then you're probably not overrating him very much. If you think that he's mediocre, then you're certainly underrating him. But, either way, he's done everything that's been asked of him, and has been impressive for the past part in doing so. Can't go wrong with that.:good
why would cotto be overrated but not mayweather who really has beaten overaged de la hoya, shot gatti,a guy who only beat judah in baldomir and him and cotto have about 4 similar opponents but cotto beat them all in better fashion
He's way underrated by his critics, and slightly (very slight) overrated by his Loyals. Toss out those two groups and that's where he is, a very good fighter, 5-10 P4P in my book. I still have concerns about his chin, but @ 147 the chin's better.
watching him against corley, torres and even malignaggi he looked way overrated, but he is re-born at welterweight.he made abeliever out of me in his last four fights, particularly against mosley.i had him beating mosley 8-4
Trinidad's opposition as a titlist at 147 was for the most part, weak. He beat a couple of good, young, undefeated contenders in 1994, then spent the next 4 years facing overmatched foes such as Ray Lovato, Kevin Lueshing, Roger Turner, and Rodney Moore because Don King wasn't promoting him well like he was later on in his career. It was at the very end of Tito's stay at welter and after he left welter when he REALLY stepped up the opposition. Or more appropriately, when he started getting the bigger fights. Unlike Cotto, Trinidad actually expressed a real desire in whom he wanted to fight and took action in trying to get the fights.
