How do you see McEwan-Qullin playing out?

Well, that's kind of insular logic isn't it? Why are we to assume Craig will dominate any aspect?

Work rate? Eh, OK. Granted. There's a little thing called accuracy that may offset that, though. :yep Cleanliness/effectiveness. Defense. Etc.

Mr P and IP, let me explain. Peter is untested at this level. He is 25-0-0 with 19kos but has never fought at a level where he is expected to take a punch. So they put him in against Craig who is known as a light puncher. Something is going on at the gym or he would be fighting for titles by now. HBO want Craig, even coming off a loss, because he is a crowd pleasing fighter and this is clearly a test for Pete, a test that his team are, clearly, not confident he will pass. All Peter has shown is his big right and if he has anything else he hasn't shown it in 25 pro fights. The word is that McEwan dominated when the two sparred at the Wildcard and even Pete is using the old excuse "you can't tell anything from sparring." McEwan is confident and has been giving Angulo a hard time in sparring in Mexico City. Therefore, guys, this is a big step up for Quillin. He might pass the test but he'll have to raise his game!

 

I can't make a prediction because I haven't seen Quillin in ages. When I did see him on FNF I was not impressed at all.

I like McEwan, and hope he wins, but I have no idea if he will. He does look like a very smooth operator.

 

Quillin is far too good for the scottish fighting rooster. Mcewans got that ugly stand up/ early 1900's gentlemen jim corbett style. Quillin by late stoppage. Quillin is far better than Lee (even though I had Mcewan winning the Lee fight before the stoppage) and Quillin destroyed Brinkley who's about on par with Mcewan.

 

He's untested because he's been managed by pea-brains. Anyone who's seen him a couple of times can plainly see the talent bursting at the seams. McEwan does have more experience, (more rounds boxed, if not more bouts) and possibly even better experience (Contreras, Perez, Vera & Lee could be argued as a better four-best opponents faced than Brinkley, D. Miranda, shot Echols and Lowry). That won't save him in the face of superior talent, though.

You CAN'T tell a lot from sparring, but what you can tell from watching several of McEwan's and Quillin's respective pro bouts is that one is clearly on a different tier of natural talent from the other. How well cultivated that talent is, and how solid his coaching - well, that's to be determined as he hasn't really been tested yet...but my hunch is that he'll pass the test against Craig with flying colors. McEwan is an easy fighter to like, whether you're Scottish, Namibian, or Mongolian - but he's looking upon a huge gulf in sheer athleticism here.

For someone who isn't at a size & strength disadvantage, it isn't exactly hard to stymie Angulo...he doesn't have the highest of ring intellects or creative boxing minds, does he?
