His conditioning was diabolical which meant his strategy went out the door. When he had Golotas eye closed in about round 6 he then failed to throw any right hands to exploit this and give the referee and ringside doctor anything to think about.
Okay, so his stamina's bad and his technique lacking. He's not an elite fighter. Doesn't mean he's "rubbish". Even a 40-year-old Golota ain't exactly chopped liver. So long as he's able to recover from this fight (it was a pretty bad beating by the end), he'll still have plenty of opportunities to appear on ESPN and so on and have crowd-pleasing fights, win lose or draw. Sometimes people get so caught up in "Who's the best?" that they don't bother accepting and appreciating those guys that are a little lower on the food chain. Mollo vs Minto, that'd be a good one.
It was nothing but embarassing for him. Not the fact that he lost the fight, but the way he it happened. He had absolutely nothing against a one eyed Golota. Plus, I hate this Ruiz-esque way of avoding the fight. There is a moment in the video when he is glued to Golota and sticks to him as Golota walks around the ring. Btw. check this out around 2 minute mark. Refree takes one point for holding, even though it was nothing as bad as what Mollo or Ruiz do on regular basis. Why can't they stick to that rule? It actually forces boxers to do boxing.
Right. Well said and dead on correct. I think this fight may have been a realization for Mollo that he may never be what he was hoping he'd be. Not only Minto, but these would also be good opponents for a fighter on Mollo's level: vs Arreola vs Vinnie Maddelone vs Timor Ibragimov vs Zuri Lawrence vs Owen Beck vs Tony Thompson All would probably be competitive and entertaining fights for Mollo. But I bet hes probably convinced that he can improve, and will still proclaim that he'll be a world titleholder before long. But in the meantime, I am sure Joe Tessatore and Teddy Atlas would probably be glad to have a Mollo fight regularly on FNF.
I found this fight very entertaining at the end just by the fact that everyone who was with me really wanted him to finish the 12 rnds. without tasting the canvas. He showed a lot of heart, he knew he couldn't win and still he tried and tried and tried and tried. He sucked but didn't quit.
