Well, Sam Peter won the interim WBC title and then faced the "real" champ Maskaev next.

On the other hand WBA's "regular" and "super" titles I can't understand why they even exist. Or WBC's silver title. Is the silver title same as being the mandatory? Like Bermane Stiverne is right now. How does it differ from being the interim champ?

like a i said...interim means nothing but another belt....beofre they could enforce their own rules, they (WBA) elevated Sturm to "super champ" , golvokin went from interim to 'regular" and now Hassan N is the interim champ... in theory, the superchamp is supposed to fight the regular champ at some point, but its been over a year and sturm is not even looking in that direction with another no hoper lined up
and yes, youre dead on with the silver belt...its their version of being #1 contender :rofl
did you know they have different versions of the silver now?
    WBC International Silver title
    WBC Baltic Silver
    WBC Female Silver

lol, all these ABC organizations and their goofy belts and rulings....

    some new additions....
some organizations tag a title fight with "SUPER CHAMPION" when unifying 2 or more belts... this gives the boxer supposedly more legitimacy among other titlests of the same weightclass. And for the casual viewer, i'd rather watch a "Super Champion" fight vs a regular "Champion" fight.... because its super?

The "minor" Title belts are basically "regional" belts for some organizations, "contender" place-marker for others. NABO/NABF (North American Boxing Organization [WBO] / North American Boxing Federation [WBC]) are the usual regional title belts we see stateside. There are many others like the Pan-American, International, European, Silver, Central-American belts which are "minor" belts too.

Basically, their purpose is to boost the exposure and credentials of a fighter that an organization is trying to build up towards a "World" title bout....

Yep, Jones will move up to heavy. Wouldn't be too surprised if he doesn't make weight for his upcoming title defense and loses his title subsequently. The plot is to have the Toney/Lebedev winner crowned as the WBA champ in order to set up some money fights.

I hear that the fight will be for the regular title. Not the interim one. Jones will get stripped
Does anybody know for sure ?

The WBA is a cluster****, who the **** knows who the Champions are any more.

Its a ****ing joke, how can it even be considered a sanctioning body if they make the rules up as they go along.

Its impossible to understand and it is made that way on purpose so people don't see what a farce they have become. The WBA does not mean anything.

You wanna be a Heavyweight Champ?? beat a Klit, thats it.

But the WBA is right this time. The winner of Toney - Lebedev will be the number one cruiserweight in the world.

Huck is ranked number 1 by the Ring and Lebedev comfortably beat Huck in his backyard. Toney is a legend who is in great shape for this one.

Expect the winner of lebedev-Toney to be declared WBA regular champ as Jones will move up to heavyweight

read an older thread about Jones going up to HW. Could he do anything worthwhile in the HW division? or too little to late?
