it looks like i might finally be getting my first amateur fight early next year, after long periods of being on/off training in the gym. the main reason for my irregularity is the strange hours i work that are very variable, however looks like im getting a nine to five job and would really like to improve my all round conditioning. in a tmie scale of around 3 months, what sort of daily/weekly routine should i be doing that i can fit around work?

One thing i hate doing is going against time.. its my worst feeling, makes me feel uncomfortable and i cant concentrate well. You said 9AM till 5AM? and you have a fight coming up soon.. Wake up 6AM, go around and find some local tracks or a nice area to run and run 5K keeping the time >30 minutes shouldn't be hard. after work go to the gym and work on anything you can. Don't keep your training too boring or you won't get motivated. Discuss with your gym mates, find a day between u and u all go tracks and do all sorts of work example. This week 5K run >25 mins, next week interval running etc. The most important part. Try to get your coach to look at you more, your shadowboxing, bagwork and ask him to do pads for you. Try to find very good people around the gym and ask them with the advice of your coach to spar against them. Always spar with people much better than you, you learn much more that way

    whats your strange hours?

    i work any where between 6 am and 11 pm. 8 - 10 hour days 40 -50 hour weeks

    I train 1 -2 hours a day???

It was easyier to keep up with classes (eg boxing and circuits) when i worked 9-5 thats the only problem i have

    Its just dedication

It's common sense to train when you can...

    If you're getting a 9-5 job I don't see the problem?

    exactly!

i try not to but sometimes i get annoyed at people with this mentality. Iv got friends exactly the same. They want this and that , they want to be as fit as me but when i say well when i get off an 8-10 hour shift i spend 1-2 hours in the gym, they look at me as if im mental lol.

Why should i have to work so hard for it and you spend your time looking for a quick fix and moaning you dont have enough time.

    Anyway rant over :D

During lunch, my gym is near my work so I go there for their noon classes. I would love to eat with my coworkers but you have to make sacrifices.

If you get a 9-5 (MONEY) then it only depends on your commute.

Get your run in in the morning before you go to work, then hit the gym and get your boxing in after work. A regular 9-5 job is great for boxing (especially if you get to sit down at work).

For now, you're in the same boat as a lot of us. Wing it. Some days you might only have time for one workout. Maybe you're working when the coaches are at the gym. There's options:

2 roadwork sessions: Say you work 12:30-9:30p. Run before work and do another little run after work.

1 session: Say you get 5am-2pm. You don't want to get up at 0300 to run, so just hit the gym extra hard after work (take a nap between work and boxing if you're lucky).

Roadwork/boxing: Say you get 7-4, 8-5, 9-5, or 10-6. Roadwork before work and boxing after.

The main thing here is to listen to your body. If you get a late shift followed by an early shift, don't work out between them, just get some rest. Don't try to establish a set in stone schedule for working out because you will not stick to it and then you'll find yourself not working out at all.

good advice cos it can be disheartening

what i tend to do is to plan out a 4 week training plan and stick to it as best as possible but sometimes i just have to be flexible depending on what m working and how im feeling!
