Possible that one of them is trying to get out of their promotional contract and Top Rank wants to cash out, Who knows what goes on behind those business doors. :huh
You must not watch as much boxing as I do... go search Yuriorkis Gamboa vs Roger Gonzalez The guy had been TKOd by nobodies and was able to eat Gamboa's shots all night long.... he was losing and it took at BS stoppage for Gamboa to get the TKO win.
First of all, to the people saying Arum is selling Gamboa out, don't you listen to Gamboa? These are the fights he wants. What's the point in going to 130, its probably the worst division in boxing. Gamboa wants the big $ and its moves like this that will earn him it. I think Gamboa wins it. Rios ain't unbeatable. He's there to be hit and he can be hurt too. In my opinion Gamboa hits just as hard as Acosta. If he keeps his workrate up I think Gamboa wins.
**** greedy Arum, he always wanted to cash out on Gamboa, only Salido ****ed his plans but no worries, here's Rios who weighs in at welterweight fight night, that's a pretty safe bet. Gamboa has two and a half months to jump two divisions and fight the division's big young pressure fighter - it only makes sense if you are a Brandon Rios team member and want a name opponent, boxing sense it's like asking Dawson do fight Vitali Klitschko in January - it's asking too much.
FOTY for sure. This ones gonna be a barnburner. But. . .2 division jump at once? Thats insaane. I wonder where would Gamboa be ranked P4P is he KOs Rios?
Sounds like a good fight, but definitely not any time soon. Let Gamboa fight Rocky Martinez, then fight for a title at 130 in the summer and by the end of year 2012 make the fight with Rios at 135. I know Gamboa wants Pacquiao, but he probably wouldn't get the fight even if he did beat Rios which seems like a ling shot for early next year.
Did you c his face after the fight, and one out of 21 fighters is what you got? Remember that was Gamboa's 13th fight.
I agree that this is a bit sketchy. Is there some concern about Gamboa's longevity? I'm asking because it sounds like Arum is trying to cash in before Gamboa's stock drops. He's almost 30 and the megafights with Caballero and Lopez fell through so what PPV worthy fights are out there besides Rios? I'm not justifying it, I'm just trying to get inside Arum's head.
I agree that it sounds ridiculous but now that I think about it, others(Duran, Armstrong, Leonard, Ketchel) have successfully done this sort of thing before. Granted, these were ATGs but Gamboa has been advertised as possessing atg talent right? Gamboa's almost 30 years old... Arum may be doing him a bigger favor than we want to admit. Remember that 2 Gamboa super fights have already fallen through so he's probably trying to get him on the fast track to a collision with Pacman.
This fight won't be happening that soon , but when it happens , and it WILL , you can be sure that Gamboa will take Rios to school , Gamboa's just too fast and slick for Rios . Gamboa by KO . Peace .
