Chisora wished him well on twitter a few days ago. I'm surprised it was never made public sooner.

It's a great shame. Although it comes to us all eventually.

Truly awful news. However, cancer is more treatable today than at any time in history. I hope they have caught this in time and my prayers are with Joe!

SMOKIN' JOE FRAZIER is reportedly close to death as he battles advanced liver cancer.

Frazier, 67, won Olympic gold for the United States at the 1964 Games before enjoying a successful pro career.

He captured both the WBC and WBA world heavyweight titles and boasted a record of 32 wins from 37 fights when he walked away from boxing for good in 1981.

But it now appears the legendary pugilist is sadly fighting a battle he cannot win.

A source close to Frazier told The New York Post: "He's in serious shape, we're looking for a miracle.

"They're only giving him a short time to live. We need to have as many people as possible praying for Joe right now."

Frazier's trilogy with the great Muhammad Ali helped cement his place in the history books.

He retained the WBC and WBA titles against Ali via unanimous decision after 15 rounds at New York's iconic Madison Square Garden in 1971.

The victory also saw him pick up the prestigious Ring belt but he was on the wrong end of a points decision when the duo met again at the same venue three years later.

Frazier boxed his arch-rival for the third and final time in the Thrilla in Manila in 1975 but was pulled out of the showdown by trainer Eddie Futch after 14 brutal rounds.

Speaking after the bout, which was voted Fight of the Year by Ring Magazine, Ali said: "Frazier quit just before I did. I didn't think I could fight any more."

And despite the animosity between the pair, the man known as The Greatest later paid Frazier the ultimate compliment by declaring the clash in the Philippines had been his toughest ever contest.

Ali declared: "I'll tell the world right now, he brings out the best in me.

"I'm gonna tell ya, that's one helluva man. God bless him."

If anyone deserves what looks like it might have to be a miracle...
