Overall has SMW been a tougher division than LHW for quite a while now?

    Read on before answering

Froch beat Pascal who did very little at SMW but was able to win a world title at LHW.
Thing is, this is not new, consider.

David Starie beat undefeated Clinton Woods at SMW, who went up to LHW and won a world title

Omar Sheika beat Glen Johnson at SMW, who went up to LHW and won a world title

Mario Veit beat undefeated Juergen Braehmer who went up to LHW and won a world title

Sven Ottke beat Silvio Branco who went up to LHW and won a world title

Markus Beyer beat undefeated Danny Green who went up to LHW and won a world title

Even fighters who were able to do well at SMW tended to do better at LHW, consider

Bruno Girard only beat Byron Mitchell by a SD but went up to LHW to win a world title and overall did a bit better at LHW than SMW

Chris Eubank beat undefeated Graciano Rocchigiani who although won a SMW title was known for winning a LHW title and not able to compete with a top SMW like Eubank but could beat a fighter like Michael Nunn at LHW.

Now im sure there will be all these nuthuggers that start going on about fighters being weight drained, but I dont recall anyone saying these fighters were weight drained when these fights happened. Did anyone claim Pascal was weight drained when Froch beat him?

Look at the form line and remember when you go on about Jones and Micchalczewski that their defeat lines lead right back to fighters at SMW ie. Jones lost to Tarver who lost to Johnson who lost to Woods etc.
Go on about Boxrec but the facts dont lie.

Pascal is no joke...he just needs a real trainer SMW division is the most talent rich division in all boxing in my opinion..

It would good to see some match up's between both divisons though.

The Pascal vs Froch fight should have went to Pascal in my opinion.

168 has Froch, Ward, Bute, Kessler, and who else? 175 has, Dawson, Pascal, Erdei, Cloud, Hopkins etc.

Also how fighter A does against fighter B, has no bearing on any argument regarding fighter C.

LHW is a solid division seems to me they are just as deep, Paacal, Dawson, Cloud, and Erdei, and Diaconou.

SMW, Ward, dirrell, keesler, froch, and bute.

The diference is that the best SMW fight each other and the best LHW dont.
At LHW there are two waisted belts Shumenov and Cleverly who fought no one.

    There should be match-ups like:
    Dawson-Cloud
    Shumenov-Cleverly
    Erdei-Diaconu
    Pascal-Sillakh
Hopkins-Henry (Hopkins to prove he's not shot)
    Chilemba-Kostecki

you only have to look at glen johnson for the answer to this

    success at middleweight

an absolute disgrace at super middleweight

    success at light heavy

look at hopkins run at middleweight - ****ing terrible list of fighters - whats at 160 now?

look at the depth at 168

look at roy jones run at light heavy - ****ing terrible list of fighters - whats at 175 now? just calzaghe and froch's left overs.

What success that Johnson have at LHW? He beat a shot RJJ, split a close one with Tarver then was dominated the next time out, then beat out by Dawson twice, beat by Cloud, and that is it at LHW.

I used to be friends with an old man (RIP) who had been a boxing fan since the 1930's. He told me the LHW division has rarely drawn any real money, and said he had no idea why. The only time in my life LHW was a big draw was when Spinks was there.

For quite a few years very few top fighters spent much time at 168. Obviously that has changed. I agree with Arum. The SMW division is becoming what what middleweight used to be: the second most important division in boxing.

Alot of people new to boxing are just looking at Frochs victory over Pascal, but im looking at the division over a few years ie

Those fighters that lost just couldnt compete in the tough SMW division. At SMW G Johnson was a journeyman, at LHW he was a contender and world champ

Very good post and possibly explains why Hopkins jumped the SMW division and why Jones exited before he had to take a challenge
