People were screaming fight of the year, but personally the only FOTY round was the first for me, granted I watched the fight knackered at 7 30 am, but still, am I alone in thinking that people are over reacting?
It was enjoyable. The only thing that taints it for me is that once Kirkland landed that first good body shot, the outcome was inevitable. The only drama at that point was what round Angulo would get stopped in.
I agree when I seen it after reading the RBR I was disappointed. HBO ****ed up the sound as well was really annoying to listen and watch. The first round was great but the rounds after were just Kirkland dominating. Still a good fight.
So you watched it already knowing the result and didn't find it that exciting? Hmm, I wonder if there's any connection.
Watching it live, you got the impression that the very next punch from either guy could completely turn the fight. That's why it was great.
Exactly. One amazing round, and then four and a half good nail-biting ones - where, yes one guy dominated but Angulo was getting good licks in all the way through the fifth and occasionally giving Kirkland fans a startle.
If you watched it live, knowing that it only takes one punch to take Kirkland down, you were on edge the whole time. It is a fight I'll always remember.
I watched it knowing the result and still found great to watch. Needed Emmanuel Steward to boost the commentary up though
Round 1 was amazing...then it went down hill. Whilst it was never "bad" it never managed to reach the peak of the opening round as Angulo was out on his feet. Certainly an exciting fight but not up there with Arce v Vazquez, Rios v Acosta or Concepcion v Marquez I
I didn't know the result, I try never to do that if I can avoid it. I literally got up and watched the fight before coming here or anywhere else. And I agree HBO destroyed the atmosphere, it just seemed to me that Angulo punched himself out and never recovered, Kirkland has a nice measure of control from that point onwards.
