Ha, what a random post, I'm from Wilmington, DE, Tiberi's a Legend!

 

Frankly, one of the worst decisions I have ever seen - and certainly one of the worst of the 90s. I don't call many fights "robberies," but if ever there was a fight that fit the term, this is it.

 

Tiberi won CLEANLY. Toney landed some clean shots, too, but Tiberi's volume and ring generalship (the fight was fought mostly with Toney's back to the ropes) were more than enough to give Tiberi 8 rounds.

 

Tiberi landed more, threw more, and dictated the pace of the fight. You'd really have to be a huge Toney fan to not think this was a stone cold robbery or that Toney won.

 

That doesn't change the fact that Toney was doing nothing but getting punched and moving in slow motion, gassed since early in the fight. Tiberi deserved the decision.

 

Toney looks so young...it's weird.

 

Tiberi definetly was screwed. Even if you had every close round for Toney, Tiberi still should've won.

I would've loved to have been hugging on Kallen back then. Tiberi should've sucked it up and fought again. Not let the political BS get to him.

Notice Tiberi "I trained hard with prince Charles Williams (L heavy champ) and Hopkins (I think he became champ later). Great people to train with.

 

Tiberi was unlucky, but he did seem to throw all of his toys out of the pram because of the fight. He could of easily bulit on that as a lot of people felt bad for him.

I hope he is happy in whatever he choose to do after that fight and content with his decision to not fight again.

 

Watch the whole fight. You can't make a judgement on f_cking hi-lights.

You guys should learn to score fights. Toney was completely weight drained and there were rounds when he did nothing, but he STILL did enough to narrowly win that fight.

Toney landed the harder more damaging blows in most rounds, he was just too drained to sustain any rally. Tiberi threw little pitty-pat punches, enough to steal some rounds, but not the ones where Toney was able to rip the harder shots.

I too had Toney by a point or so--a draw would have been ok, and you maybe could have had Tiber by a point, but ...all that controversy stuff was pure crap.

Amazing that Tiberi turned down the rematch and never fought again.

I've read that interview before. Tiberi has always seemed like a good guy, but I've always thought it was garbage to claim that he quit to take up this great moral crusade because he was jobbed so bad.

Anyone who knows how to properly score a fight second-by-second, round-by-round, can see that fight was close, and Toney winning was very plausible.

Tiberi knew he caught Toney when he was totally weight drained, could barely even stand up, and STILL lost.

I remember Alex Wallau's completely biased commentary during that fight too, and I think his hyperbole went a long way to building the public perception of the controversy.
