RJJ has a 6 inch reach and a 9 inch height difference to overcome as well.
He would CONSTANTLY be in Vitali's range, the amount of dodging/slipping/weaving he would have to employ just to not get hit (not even talking about mounting any offense that leaves him wide open) makes this entire stance completely laugheble.

Add Vitalis timing, highly underrated speed (at his prime pre surgery) and his 1 punch power (before his shoulder surgery) and this is just laugheble.

Can just close this thread now as outside of the 2 trolls trying to get a rise out of factual, rational and logically thinking people its just beyond ******ed.

Just ban both of their accounts as they obviously are just created to troll people.

One thing that isn't being considered is workrate. Ruiz was never particularly active and almost never throws combinations. Sure, he wasn't horribly slow of hand and foot, but he wasn't blazing, and certainly no faster than Vitali, now, or back in 2003. Vitali routinely throws 70-90 punches a round, sometimes over 100. I don't care how much quicker Roy was than Vitali, there will be punches landed, based on pure volume. Vitali did indeed land clear punches on Byrd... maybe not many, but enough to win rounds... and Byrd could take a punch much better than Roy.

Several of Vitali's opponents have commented that he's much faster in person than he looks like on television. Also his footwork his vastly underrated. He has a great ability to judge and manipulate distance, using his underrated and surprisingly quick feet to get him away from opponents or toward them much faster than they realize. He wasn't pretty, but was usually effective.

Not only was Vitali not as slow as his detractors think, but he has a ridiculous workrate for such a large man. Vitali throwing 70+ punches a round versus 30 or 40 for Ruiz... I'm sure he'll land some shots. Ruiz certainly landed cleanly... especially in the 1st. Roy took it pretty well, but he would have taken more, and harder punches against the elder Klitchsko.

Plus, even if he only did land only glancing blows early... a man of Vitali's size and power... that will also do damage, especially against a man 50 pounds or more lighter. After 4 or 5 rounds, Roy's arms will certainly be bruised and sore, if that is all Vitali is catching (doubtful, but I can work with the premise). Eventually, even that indirect beating will slow Roy down to the point of getting caught clean.

I can understand not liking Vitali or not enjoying his style. But to say the man had no skill or technique is absurd. He developed a style which suits him and his build. He moves the way he does and holds his hands where he does because it enables him to be effective against smaller and often quicker opposition. It's not like Roy ever learned proper technique. Eventually, once his reflexes went, that lack of technique got him knocked out... over and over again. However, even in his prime... he DID get hit. Usually not by more than a punch at a time... but it did happen. And not once in Roy Jones's illustrious career did he ever get tagged by someone who hit as hard as Vitali Klitschko.

Jones wouldn't stand a chance really. Jones would also have never taken the fight, far too dangerous for him. Ruiz was handpicked. Jones made it clear that this was a one-time affair, he would never attempt to fight a real heavyweight.

Ironically Jones is taking terrible damage today getting knocked out silly at Cruiserweight but that's a different story.

I think the point about workrate is a decent one, however, fighters will always have a good workrate against sitting ducks. No fighter in the world is going to throw 80 punches a round against a guy they can't hit and that would be the case with Jones and Vitali. If you look at all the great defensive fighters, people before a fighter will say "Yeah, he's defensive but this guy throws 100 punches a round and will outpoint him" and it never works out that way. Mayweather has fought busy fighters, Hopkins has, Toney has, Whitaker did, Pep did and one thing you will always see, is that the workrate of their opponent dramatically declines. Especially guys who throw high amounts of punches. Fighters who throw around 50 per round won't decline that much but fighters who throw 100 a round simply don't do that against fighters they can't hit.

If Vitali did throw 80 punches a round against Jones, I'd pick him. The problem is, he wouldn't do that. He'd throw a lot of jabs to find the range and his power punches would be around 20 at the most. Overall, I think Vitali would throw under 50 punches per round. Why? Because he'd be fighting a rapidly quick footed Jones Jr. and not a guy who will stand in front of him with absolutely no movement.

I give you credit though because it is an actual argument. It's a wrong argument, and one I've disproven, but it is an argument, so well done.

Which fighter, pre-weight loss, was able to have success against Jones which makes you think Vitali could do the same? Who was able to hit him with regularity who was as slow as Vitali?

    Simple question, simple answer.

Well, he's not but even if that was true, Ruiz had no success against Jones, so you haven't proven anything, other than you're an idiot.

By that train of logic Floyd would beat RJJ because Floyd is faster than RJJ. Your entire argument is a bunch of BS.

Vitali would demolish RJJ with utter ease. You're the only clown here who thinks otherwise.

The difference is, slower fighters than Jones have landed on and hurt Mayweather so logic assumes Jones would also land.

Name me a slower fighter than Vitali who landed in Jones. I can name many who are faster than Vitali who haven't landed anything on him.

Come on, just one name. You can do that if you're right, can't you?

Nope, Ruiz is very basic technically - Vitali throws a better jab and a deadly, straight right. He's no wizard, but a damn sight better than Ruiz.

Btw. I frickin' love Roy Jones Junior and I'd like to think he would be able to give a guy like Vitaly SOME trouble, but I certainly do NOT think he could do to Vitali what he did to Ruiz. Vitalis reach and weight would cause RRJ huge problems - even if he was able to evade most punches early on he'd eventually get drained, slow down and probably get stopped. Just blocking punches from a guy that big hurts when you're smaller and Vitali isn't stupid - he'd know not to just go for Roy's head from the off.
