Marquez will never have the speed regardless. It's the power that he wants, and his ace in the hole, his timing that he's counting on. He thinks, er he's got Manny's timing down.

I noticed that he is having a Jail House build! I think he wil be able to absorb Pacs punches but I think he will be overtrained and sluggish.

Their goal is to bulk up some weight for strength and toughness without sacrificing speed and agility. We'll know if they succeeded or not come fight time.

Team Pacquiao were on a similar situation against Margarito. But Pacquiao thinks the extra weight slowed him down so they scrapped it. Now Marquez is going through with it. So it's reasonable to conclude he can carry his speed and agility over the extra weight.

    It's pretty obvious.
One of pac's glaring "improvement" as he moved up in weight is the ability to absorb punches.
This is mostly due to a better conditioning, timing and balance when throwing his punches and of course, a more technical approach to his fights.
JMM's camp knows that they should be able to absorb some of Pac's punches while making Pac respect JMM's.
Solution, bulk up in the right manner so JMM's speed is still there.

    Why come lighter? :huh

Holyfield weighed more than 200 lbs when he fought at HW.

Jones, Hopkins, Tito, Oscar, Floyd, etc they all moved up in weight as they move up divisions.

increasing his ability to take a punch, increase his power to punch, without sacrificing his speed. at least thats what i got on his explanation.

of course there will trade offs. if not speed, would be stamina because he has to carry more weight towards the latter rounds.

but according to him, the training/bulking was designed not sacrifice speed (or stamina if i may add). so, if there are trade offs, it would be alot less compared when he trained for pure strength in the mayweather fight.

edit: in other words, they are doing it right this time. well, they were doin it wrong last time, they realized now, and to top it, they cheated in the scales...so.

meaning, the marquez now is 2 levels (1. right training, 2. no cheating on the scales) above marquez that fought mayweather.

prolly 3 levels, if you add peds (of course its just specualtion):good.

we have almost the same points and didnt even read yours, except i added, possibly peds to address stamina.

I'm not sure about peds, I really don't like to think that about fighters although I'm aware it's possible. I believe at the end of the day we don't really know who's clean and who's not, so as long as they're all tested the same way, I think they're all entering the ring pretty much the same way.

An interesting note about stamina and a theory on why Pac has put on the weight so well is their skeleton size. Studies in males show a relation of wrist size with the size of the skeleton frame and bone desnity. Bigger bones in boxing are believed to improve the way a fighter takes punches, as well as stamina because of the production of more red blood cells that carry oxygen to every organ and tissue of the body. Pac's wrists are measured at 8 inches (bigger than Wladimir Kilitshcko), while JMM's are 6.5 (which is not really small for his size, just not freakishly huge like Pac's). This makes me think that no matter how well Marquez puts on the weight he might never carry it as well as Pacquiao, something which would be relevant mostly in the later rounds of a grueling fight.

Who said he has bulked up??

Until hes on the scales, and in the ring,we wont have a clue.

Hes always been ripped in his fights and generally weigh around 145.

He was and is basically the same size and weight as Pac.

If hes clever and this new conditioner has been doing his job,Marquez should be 2-3 l;bs heavier,to add some power. 2-3lbs will do absolutely nothing to his speed.

Itas amazing what your body can do when you actually have a proper strength program and start having a few protein shakes instead of drinking your own ****.

Didn't we read somewhere that JMM isn't doing any long distance running for this fight? Maybe JMM knows that his only chance is to try and catch Pac early while he himself is still pretty fresh.

I can't see this fight going past 7 if JMM didn't do any long distance running.

Whilst I havent read that anywhere, I dont think it would totally preclude him doing well.

Prince Naseem apparently seldom if never did road work when he was Ingle. He just trained in the gym, hitting pads, bags, sparring etc.

And really I dont see why that cant get you fit enough.

What gets you fitter for boxing than actually training the actions that you do in a boxing ring. I mean, nothing gets a basketballer fitter for his sport than playing basketball. Nothing gets a soccer player fitter for soccer than playing lots of soccer etc etc etc.

So doing the actions of boxing over and over, through punching the various bags, mitts, sparring, shadow boxing etc along with the conditioning work that you do in the gym(think the stuff Ariza has Pac doing) should be plenty. A lot of the running you see Pac.Khan and others doing these days is sprint work whcih develops power.

The whole going for a 5 mile run in the morning is almost more of a traditional thing, than something that has a tonne of modern sports science behind it.
