I truly believe that comment slipped through. It was funny as hell. It was like he was talking to his boys.
His analysis of a fight is 99% of the time exactly right. "If Tito goes to the body on Mayorga we will be going home early tonight" 30 seconds later: Tito lands a body shot. Mayorga falls down. He does it over and over and over again. Foreman can't even see what's going on: "The ref is the most important guy in the ring. Besides the two fighters." "Those shoulders start walking you down, like a heavyweight's shoulders" "If you're hopkins you don't want to trade with Tito, Tito has him right where he wants him" Foreman was always wrong on fights, Roy knows what's going to happen.
which broadcast was the ''what a beard son'' comment from?! Does anyone have a clip? sounds brilliant really want to hear it!
Don't know how/why anyone dislikes him. He's there to provide "expert" commentary and he does it far better than Foreman. Lummox was just bad.
I did not like his commentating at first but I think he is my favourite now also. He should stick to the commentating and forget about fighting there has to be pretty good money in it. Getting punched anymore might not help him with his job with HBO.
Roy Jones has been the best in the business for years and his insight is without peer:deal. He sees things before they happen and he's usually spot on. HBO should replace Steward with Jones ASAP.
I love him as a commentator as well, really gives some nice analysis of what's going on and doesn't seem to be biased against fighters in the slightest in any of the fights I've seen him commentating in. They should make him a permanent commentator on HBO for sure.
I've always enjoyed Roy's commentary. He used to do some of the Boxing After Dark shows back in the late 90's. His commentary on the Barrera/McKinney fight is one of my favorites.
