Was it inappropriate for Floyd to announce his good deed?

Included in a tweet? Of multiple tweets? And somehow that's different? :huh

Look, I don't care to get into this with you. You think it was a great move, I can agree to an extent. Funerals are expensive!! But the announcing, just reaks of bad PR.

Hasim rahman paid for the funeral of a fighter who passed on about 5-6 years ago, he didn't try to announce it to garner good will. He just did it out of respect. And didn't say a word. I just don't think Floyd understands that intimate level of detail, is best left unadvertised.

Think about it this way. Would anyone have had a negative comment to make about Floyd had he said "RIP JOE ...I'll be dedicating my next fight to you, or I'll be donating X dollars to a cancer awareness group". Of course not, the problem is that Floyd's built his whole persona around money to the point where the normal fan or Floyd hater is immediately resentful when he even mentions something monetary. There'd be nothing wrong with Floyd saying he wants to spend 100k on clean up relief in Haiti right after the earthquake took place so I don't see a problem with him commenting that he has the intention to pay for boxing legends funeral. He really can't win in this situation.

 

Maybe Floyd wanted to show how much a hero of his meant to him, and to take away financial worry from the Fraziers at a time of such pain??
Anyone who can criticise a gesture like that, is in short, a ****!

 

I voted no but Floyd can do a lot of wrong. Personally, I don't think there's nothing wrong with him announcing that he's doing that. How many people would crticize Ali, Foreman, or Holmes if they did the same thing?

If this is even a serious thread then I pose these questions: Obviously he doesn't have to announce helping a boxing legend's friends and family but what is so wrong about doing it? Would you rather read tweets about him burning dollar bills? I don't recall him ever being dishonest about paying for someone's funeral. He was responsible for covering Genaro's funeral expenses, wasn't he? And why do you Pac fans keep harping on the "sucker" punch? I suppose you haven't gotten over it. That right there is what this entire thread is really all about.

It doesn't matter IF (big IF) Mayweather is doing it for attention. Fact is he's supporting a true boxing legend and that can't be wrong. If FMJ ends up not paying for the funeral arrangements then you have every right to call him out for it.

 

I think this is going to far, I don't know Mayweathers intentions but he is doing a good thing even if he did mention he would pay for the funeral and it wasn't to your liking give the man a pass!

Like I said he IS doing a good thing and the Frazier family can do without money woes right now.

He does alot of things wrong and deserves some of the stick he gets, I dont think you should praise him but giving him a hard time is a bit much.

I pity the fools who try to make this into a 'are you a ***** or a *******' issue, like voting yes automatically makes you a ******* and a hater and voting no makes you a *****. For the record, i'm a big fan of Mayweather, but i'm not an apologist, and this was a questionable move that made me frown. It's a nice move in and of itself to pay for the funeral, but there's no need whatsoever to announce it online like that, NO REASON WHATSOEVER!
