talks of Gamboa moving to 135 are LEGIT, as he is looking for the biggest fights. If Gamboa/Rios can't be made, a fight with MArquez in 2012 would be one of the bigger fights Gamboa could get, and HBO would be pleased to broadcast it. How would that fight play out? This is always a fight I wanted to see, IF Gamboa is a legit p4p fighter he can carry his skills/power the way PBF, and Pacquiao have done.
Marquez De Leon timed him and blocked many of his shots and made him look bad at times i figure Marquez is a cut above and hits harder
marquez is one step above Rios, but he is getting old and this 3rd fight against Pac could do some damage...Gamboa is looking very sharp and having steward on his side could bring some improvement.Still, i dont think he is ready for marquez yet. about de leon timing him...i didnt see that fight, the fight i saw was Gamboa beautifuly moving around de leon and targeting little by little and by the time of the stopage Gamboa was increasing his rythm and leading to a KO in the late rds.It was only one rd( the 1st) that could have gone either way, everything else was gamboa.
Gamboa would need to test the waters first. Gamboa-Katsidis or Gamboa-Soto would be highly entertaining before taking on beasts like Rios and Jmm.
Well then, what about Rios-Marquez? tough call, rios is extremely strong, durable and resilient but marquez is some kind of a beast himself, and he's such a great technician. Gamboa is too small for both of these guys right now, he has to prove himself in this division first.
If I was Arum, I'd steer Rios clear of Marquez and Robert Guererro. Both of them throw short sharp acurate shots and would have a chance of stopping Bam Bam. IMO. As far as Gamboa, move up and fight Katsidis now that he's not looking so great, then maybe go after Ricky Burns. (I've got huge amounts of respect for Burns who I've met and is a great guy, but he's not as strong as Rios and not as skilled as Marquez.)
I think Rios beats Guerrero. Marquez-Rios is the fight to be made. What a great great fight that would be. I favor JMM by a close UD. As for Gamboa, JMM stops him somewhere around the 8th.
At this point of his career, JMM has earned the right to stop fighting big risk-little reward fighters, which Rios is, especially if he wins tonight (which I hope). But still, Bam-Bam is slowly becoming a star so the fight could be made. Guerrero-Rios is a very good match up, I'll like to see this fight. I would like to see Gamboa fight Donaire first, but this will not likely happen.
