How does the decision affect Pacquiao's legacy?

Pacquiao might as well have semi-retired and hand picked his fights for the last 3 years. Maybe then he'd be a great..

 

The controversial scoring will only be remembered by historians and hard-core fans.

Most casual followers of the sport in years to come will see a W next to Pacquaio's name for Saturday night and see nothing beyond that.

 

I feel sorry for Marquez, how frustrating must that be? It's things like this that make a man walk away from the sport. Let's hope they finally make the mayweather/pacquiao fight after this mess.

 

Same here i had all 3 fights scored to Marquez. This affects Mannys legacy big time IMO.

 

Not a great deal, but I don't think he deserved the boos that rung out afterwards, it wasn't his fault the decision was ****.

If Marquez had got the verdict as he ought to have done, and Manny won the 4th fight then there can be no arguments, but if the 4th fight now goes ahead and he wins, people will always look back and say that Manny was well beaten in the 3rd fight anyway - and the 2nd IMO.

I think it affects Marquez's legacy more.

He deserved the win. You can argue a case for him winning the previous two fights also. He comes out of the trilogy with a draw and two losses. This result does in no way accurately reflect the level of Marquez's performance overall in the three fights.

It's just a case of stylistic kryptonite. Ali had Norton and Hearns had Barkley. Pacquiao has Marquez. Regrettable decision, but for me it doesn't tarnish his legacy.

 

I guess it will effect his legacy like Mayweather's first Castillo fight; hardly at all.

 

Did Norton effect Ali's legacy? Did Barkley effect Hearns'? did the Baby Arizmendi fights effect Homicide Hanks legacy?

 

Most people will just look at his boxrec record and say he was one of the greatest, just like people do today with old fighters, hardly ever having watched them.

His paper trail is impressive, some of his fights have been really good to watch and deserve a place in peoples video bank, but his promoters match making has been the real master piece.
