http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sAIVDew3Z0s I'm in black and gold. I would really appreciate any insight. I lost by SD.
As much as i watched it i could say you put in a great effort and didn't back down. I'l watch it fully a bit later.
Good job Mac! Pretty good for your first bout, especially considering your lack of a proper gym. Things I noticed: Keep your right hand up when you jab and when you are coming forward. Bring your jab back faster and higher, he was landing a lot of right hands over your jab. It didn't seem to bother you too much, but those right hands are easy for the judges to see....and count. Try moving to your right more. You only moved to your left...straight into his right hand. If you had thrown that 1-2 and moved right, his counter right would have missed. Good job coming forward and keeping the pressure on him. And good keeping the hands up. Try turning a bit more so you aren't so squared up right in front of your opponent. Again, good job! I hope you get another bout soon.
Yeah I called my trainer today and no practice... again. ugh! Thanks tho, yeah i noticed that i dropped my right when jabbing alot. I'm trying to work on attacking the body more.
Pretty good for 1st fight. Your jabs could be a little faster. Instead of 1 2 you could try 1 1 2 or 2 1 it confuses your opponent a little and it prevents counters. As Amy said keep your guard up. Otherwise you looked fine.
Yeah i try to throw the jab with too much power, it's solid but slow. I'm trying now to put more snap to it when i practice.
I Agree. I didn't even attempt to score it, but I thought you did a great job for your first fight. Keep at it :thumbsup
Was that both of your 1st fights? Either way good job for getting the 1st one in the books. As far as what you could do better will all come in time at the gym, sparring and just watching what other fighters do in different situations. Keep up the good work.
Thanks i'll work hard. It was my first fight. The kid i fought said it was his 8th fight, i talked to him afterwards.
Not bad for your first fight. Agree with everybody else about keeping your hands up. Also you were predictable, always coming forward and leading with a slow jab to the head. You need to change this up and move in and out in various rythms to confuse your opponent and make him miss. For example, jab and bounce out again off the ball of your lead foot (this needs practice, jab lands as lead foot lands on floor and bounces you back), he'll then swing and miss and then you come back in again. Or jab, slip the counter jab (I noticed he parried and counter jabbed a lot) and throw a quick (not too powerful) right and a hard left hook as you slide to the left, or slide back. Also try lead lefts and rights to the body. Get your head moving too.
I only watched 30 seconds and that's what I saw too. Also, he didnt seem to have a very good jab and yours seemed to hit quite good. You shoulda used it more, you seemed to have a better reach. Maybe I just didnt watch long enough but that was what i noticed. So basically, more jabbing and be faster when you bring it back, this is the AMs.. you don't need to hit as hard as you can. Just get the clean hit and bring it back.
I've been working on developing a bob weave so i can throw more body shots. This being my first fight i just stuck to the basics and simple straight punching to the head. I don't have a flicker jab. Does my right hand seem really weak to you guys?
ok. you got in and did not do bad, first part achieved. firstly, your defence. there ae many ways of not being hit, holding your hands high, as said by many here is one, however there is so much more to a good defence than blocking. you need to get some lateral movement and learn to slip and parry, this is especially in the amatuers when single punches earn points, when catching on the gloves, judges can be conned into awarding points. also slipping, parrying and ducking shots leave you in a position to counter with shots of your own. when you get back in the gym, get working soley on defence for a while, learn to slip, learn how to parry both inside and out, find which slip and parry you are most comfortable with to then land the counter...from you video you seem to favour the left for power, most orthodox fighters tend to favour the right, therefore learn how to parry the jab on the outside where your left hook can be a potent weapon.... **** it, i could go on all day.....summary, learn to move, be cuter in your defence and it will all fall into place... oh, and keep enjoying it, it all ends too soon....
