most if not all of his weaknesses come from lack of amateur career

To be honest, I don't think it's low at all. I think it's well above average, but obviously doesn't match up with the absolute top in the sport. Only in terms of ring IQ, not athleticism or anything else that makes up their overall quality, etc, FMJ/BHOP would be in the A+ group, JMM in the A-, Pac a B or B-, where guys like Adamek, Martinez and Cotto are, imo. Which is pretty good, really, far from anything to be ashamed about. He's got his weaknesses and things he doesn't adjust to, but he's got plenty that he does do, too. Even if you're a physical wonder, you really don't get anything close to these heights without being relatively intelligent in there. Let's put it into some context, here.

Pacquiao is not that subtle and I can't forget about the improvement in boxing skills and smooth combo punching in the David Diaz lightweight title win. He was all about intensity like Hatton sometime ago but somehow he was more committed to get first and he has developed technical details to improve accuracy and it has a lot to do with footwork and athletic hability yeah. Pacquiao is not a cerebral fighter like those old school, great defensive wisdom foxes out there. But remember - there is a very thin line dividing the guy who is superb technically but can't make it to the brutal blood sport and the guy who clowns with opponents. There were 48 guys that tried and failled b4 Michael Spinks used that herky-jerky style to keep an old Larry Holmes to score jabs and effective right hands in one-twos. Ali had almost to fall sick with punching drunkness b4 Holmes stopped him in 10 - that means two decades at least. It took more than 10 years since SRL was clearly outfought by one Terry Norris. Still look at the classics, Frazier fell in two against Foreman and gave hell of fights against Ali, Norton went beyond the call of duty against Ali twice and won once and lost a SD to Holmes, SRL and Tommy Hearns had trouble with each other from the first to the 13th and 12th rounds since 1981 to 1989, Hearns himself beat a once unbeaten Hill who actually beat Maske for the first time and twice Tiozzo and Tommy again at LHW would lose a SD to Barkley after being stopped at MW... Barkley however was destroyed in one by Benn and toyed by Toney to lose the SMW title, Iran Barkley even lost a SD to Duran who was smashed by the guy who was destroyed by Barkley, yeah, Thomas Hearns and SRL who had trouble with Hearns, Leonard won easy against the guy who put Herans flat on the canvas, Hagler. I could go on but you get the picture. No Pac-JMM IV and if May doesn't want a piece of Pac's ass or vice-versa, fine and dandy with me. Case closed.

 Calzaghe's "adjustments" being that a 43 year old man got tired. Yeah, sensational brainpower from the Welsh windmiller alright.

    :rofl

IMO Mayweater, Hopkins, JMM are all equally as impressive with their ring smarts. Also Donaire seems pretty switched on in the ring then you have your guys like Martinez and Cotto like you said and i'd put Pac in with them but I think his shortcomings were somwhat exposed because of his last two fights where he had real problems cutting off the ring and dealing with JMM's subtle movements in it.

So you don't think he made any adjustments? It was Calzaghe who made Hopkins gas with his punch output and by making Hopkins work every minute of every round, remember a 46 year old Hopkins breezed past Jean Pascal and even had time for some pushups inbetween.

I told you guys Manny is just like Paul Williams. They both become stubborn repetitious fighters throwing and doing the same broken record bs when adversity hits. Manny's ring IQ is legally ******ed in terms of boxing. *******s I feel bad for your guy. Go ahead and buy his stupid Nike clothes. They're on discount right now.

JMM couldn't outthink or defeat Chris John, he couldn't assert any dominance over the jab of a stale old Barrera, he got dragged into dogfights by fighters the calibre of Michael Katsidis and Juan Diaz. JMM is not on Hopkins' level when it comes to ring IQ. Just because stylistically he poses problems for one great fighter does not mean he is an elite cerebral fighter, he isn't.
