I dont think either man was the same after that third fight.I thing the logic isnt always correct though. the reason that that fight imo did contribute to Ali's Parkinsons, is because of the extreme heat in the arena and obviously the punishing nature of the fight. But, fighting when dehydrated like can damage the brain more.
Um that's not what we're talking about Duodenum. Ali wasn't there to show the world what Frazier had did to him. It was a really weird and twisted thing to say. Don't want to harp on anything past that if you don't mind. As for Ali. I understand he was seen so his condition has arisen talk. It's incredibly sad to see Ali the way he is. I do believe, though, that it's boxing that has given Ali what he has. Most doctors, as far as I understand agree with such an idea (It was expressed in the Facing Ali documentary this way as well). There's a difference as far as I know between Parkinson's, and Parkinson's Syndrome (Which is what Ali has. Not Parkinson's like Michael J Fox).
Are you sure you're confusing Parkinson''s disease with Parkinson's syndrome? Parkison's disease is a specific neuro-degenerative diseases, whose cause is unknown. Parkinson's syndrome is used to refer to symptoms similar to those of Parkinson's disease caused by a number of disorders. edit: it appears some doctors might use the terms interchangeably...
I heard Ali was in bad shape and needed people on each side to walk. Nice to see the boxing community come out for one of their own.
I just want to thank everyone for all your comments. Joe was a Great fighter and he was also a Great person. Like I said, I met him many times and he always treated me like I was one of the boys. At the Ring 8 meeting in New York last night they showed a tape of last years (2011) Christmas Party at Russo's on the Bay before the meeting. I was the MC and they showed Joe many times. At the end I said, "Lets here it one more time for Smoking Joe Frazier" and he showed off his famous left hook. There were a couple of mistakes in his Obituary which was read off at the funeral. They said that he was a 3 time National Golden Glove Champion, actually he never won the Golden Gloves. They said he was Inducted into the IBHOF in 1980, it was 1990. I shook my head both times and the people around me asked if that was really true and I told them no. Most people most likely had no idea about this, But you think they would have gotten this right, or am I being too picky?
A little too picky. It's not the details of Golden Gloves and IBHOF. It's the impact he had, and the fact that he inspired people and made a difference. At this point those details are more of an after thought (If he won Golden Gloves or not, IBHOF, etc. Yeah they should get that stuff right, but that's not the takeaway);.
If they made mistakes at my grandad's funeral I would have been ****ing furious. You're not being to picky at all Henry, in fact you're probably not making enough of it -that's a total disgrace. Everyone has the right to have their lives properly observed at their funeral, if nowhere else, and Frazier as much as any man that lived.
People make mistakes. At my wedding, when my bride and I were walking into the reception hall for dinner, the announcer addressed me as " Michael" rather than my real first name... People sometimes get flustered.. It happens. While the reader should have been better prepared at Frazier's funeral, I'm sure most of the more pertinent points were made.. The important thing, is that his memory was echoed by the fact that so many turned out.....
I agree, But his Obit was written down and it was in the program, which I have. Then the person just read it from the program.
and that would be ridiculous if he was, the Rocky statue stands for the will and courage of a imaginary hero that represented trying, color is not the issue and should not be the concern, it was donated by Stallone but was a prop for the movie...I think Frazier started out at a higher level he was an Olympic champion and funded by a group of majority white business people that took stock in cloverlay ...Rocky Balboa may have had the Philadelphia spirit but was as real of a character as Santa Claus or Spider-man and was a club fighter that made the best of an opportunity...there were Phillie fighters that came from obscurity to success and the club fighters that tried like Art"the Dart" Kettles and others...it is the spirit of Rocky Balboa like the spirit of the Grinch redeemed and I don't see it as a racial issue or concern and anyone that does is pushing the envelope
Everything is about race where Jesse Jackson is concerned unfortunately. I really don't want to open up this can of worms on a public forum, ( and especially on an obituary thread ) but if the philadelphia statue were of a black fictional character, Jackson would have said nothing about it, regardless of weather or not the depiction were of a real person...
