I think the most important improvement Golota showed in this fight was in the first round, where he effectively covered and did not open himself up to any big punches, when Mollo jumped on him with a flurry of huge and rapid shots from different angles. Mollo wisely tried a few punches in the midsection to try to lower Golota's guard, but Golota pretty much sucked up those punches. As a result Mollo was hitting gloves and elbows and a potential disaster was averted. Had Golota done thesame in the first round against Brewster, instead of trying to half-heartedly exchange with him and opening up his face in the process, the fight would have continued. Gosh, thesame could be said about the Lewis and Tyson fights. Imagine the possibilities if a prime Golota could have taken those fights further than the first few rounds. At least he knows how to handle first round pressure now.

He definitely appears to know how to handle the 1st round onslaught that I assure you EVERY opponent Golota faces will try to pull on him.

If Golota is given the chance to warm up and get his rhythm going, this is when he performs very well.

Golota should take a warm up fight fairly soon while he's got a good tempo going. Three wins in a row (two of which strongly tested his heart and ability to handle pressure). He's red hot! :fire

s impersonating a police officer? Or the bar room brawl that caused him to flee from Poland?

    _______________

What about that incident around two years ago when he was arrested and charged with kidnapping and sexually assaulting two girls? What ever became of that?

I'm also curious about his past or present connection with the Polish mafiya. I'm not saying this to put him down. I've been a fan of his for a long time. But he does have a very interesting background - a background that might explain some of his mysteries.

WTF? I have never heard about this incident. I don't think Golota would do something like this. He has a daughter of his own. Someone please refute this and say it never happened. I don't think Golota is capable of this type of act. Thanks.

Weird how that vanished from the news entirely. I never heard any follow up to it. Trying to google it up, I came across this:

    Golota faces 13 weapons charges

    Amy Le, pioneerlocal.com

Olympic Boxing bronze medal winner Andrzej "Andrew" Golota was arrested at his Norwood Park home June 28 as police were there to investigate an alleged sexual assault that took place June 27, 2004.

At Golota's residence on the 8000 block of West Berwyn Avenue, police from the Jefferson Park (16th) District found a dozen unregistered weapons, police said.

The 38-year-old boxer was charged with 12 misdemeanor counts of possessing unregistered firearms and one count of carrying a revoked firearm owner's identification card, said Robin Mohr, a Chicago Police News Affairs spokeswoman.

Police were at Golota's house investigating an incident that began about 8:30 a.m. June 27 when a man driving near Madison and Larrabee streets, west of the Loop, approached two women walking in the area, pointed a handgun at them and ordered them into a car, according to a police report.

The man then drove the women to a residence on the Northwest Side. Police said one of the women, 33, claims she was sexually assaulted, and the other was ordered to wait in the living room. The two victims escaped and called police; at least one of the women identified Golota as the attacker, police said. Mohr said that the sexual assault allegations are still under investigation and no charges have been filed.

Golota was released Thursday evening from Area Five headquarters, 5555 W. Grand Ave. A court date is set for July 19 in Cook County misdemeanor court.

Officials at the State's Attorney's office said Golota does not have a felony criminal record.

Golota was born in Warsaw, Poland, but moved to Chicago in 1991. The 6 foot 4 inch boxer had an astonishing amateur career with 111 wins, including a bronze medal at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, Korea. His professional boxing career, however, has been tainted by controversy and disappointments.

In a match against former Heavyweight champion Riddick Bowe at Madison Square in 1996, Golota suffered his first loss when he was disqualified for hitting below the belt. And in a rematch in Atlantic City in December, Golota dominated Bowe in the ring, but was disqualified in the ninth round.

The Polish boxer's career includes 38 wins and 31 knockouts, but he never won a heavyweight title. His last match was in Chicago against champion Lamon Brewster on May 21, 2005.

For that arrest, he was only charged with 12 misdemeanor counts of possessing unregistered firearms and one count of carrying a revoked firearm owner's identification card. That's it.
But by the time he had to appear in court, he had his license renewed and identification card and everything, so he was cool.

How about that? They got his age wrong in that report. Golota would have been 36 in 2004 not 38 as it said there. He was born January 5, 1968. I would doubt the veracity of the alleged sexual assault. It sounds fishy to me.
