John Murray earned his shot at Rios and the WBA lightweight strap by getting KO'd my Mitchell.

Nicky Cook earned his shot at Burns' WBO title by beating Youssef Al Hamidi in a 6 rounder after being out for 2 years.

Joseph Laryea also earned his shot at Burns' WBO title by beating the "world class operator" Paul Appleby.

Burns vs Mitchell would be a very big domestic fight, if you don't fancy it Mr Nelson, just say you don't fancy it.

 

I have to admit, Im a Murray hater, been hating on him for years here since he said he was going to "break Ricky Burns in half" years ago, & then pulled out of the fight, I was sure Ricky would have boxed his arrogant ears off:bbb Murrays a legend in his own skull, the fact that he was dying to take on a so-called 'friend' in Mitchell & was telling Joel Gallagher in the gym that he didnt need to train hard cos he would "walk right through him" I waited too long to see this guy get a long deserved L, after gifts against a mexican roadsweeper & al hemidi no less. Im actually worried for him in this Rios fight, cos Murray IMO isnt ready for the step-up, but Im going on a bit here!

Aye Lee Mc, boxed the ears off Murray for two rounds then gassed, a definite opportunity missed for the mad aberdonian! Lee was fed too many bums in two many 6 & 8 rounders before a competitive championship distance fight though, & it showed IMO.

Just make sure whoever you fight next isn't below Mitchell (Evenson etc), as that won't end well for anyone. It doesn't help Ricky in a boxing sense and it doesn't help anyone from a viewing perspective.

which is alot more than Mitchell, I do reckon it has the potential for a good fight though, I reckon Burns is too good though, Mitchell not strong enough to keep him away and his boxing wouldnt be enough either as Ricky could box him at range all night.

firstly Murray is fighting for the WBA title, and ok maybe he is not world level but he is still getting a shot at a genuine title and let's not forget Mitchell knocked Murray out.
and what world title does Burns hold right now? so Mitchell wouldn't be getting a shot at anything, he just wants the fight and judging what Billy Nelson is saying Burns and co don't really fancy it.

secondly are you for real? Mitchell not strong enough? Murray is stronger than Burns and he dealt with that type of pressure fighter ok, Burns is hardly a bulldozer and as for long range boxing, Mitchell has more than enough about him to deal with long arms and the constant grabbing we saw against Katsidis.

 

True. However that's no real argument for Mitchell not getting the fight, as Burn's only world class opponents (and performances) were for World Titles. By Billy's logic Burns should never have fought for the titles he won as he hadn't proven himself to be on the level of Martinez or Katsidis beforehand.

I think given the nature of Burns previous defenses Billy should zip it until theres a good opponent in place, rather than putting down a fighter who is better than any of Burns title defenses.

Got to question where people are getting the idea that he has any discernible power from though, his last decent stoppage was Michael Gomez.
