While Arum is certainly no angel, I cant help having sympathy for Arum if 3 seperate eye doctors, one of whom was his sugeon, all agreed that Margarito was OK to fight but a unqualified NYSAC person says hes not? I first recall the issue with his license revolved around the hand wraps hangover, but now the eye? I would have imagined Arum OK'd it with HBO and Marg himself and therefore with that in his pocket not to mention the doctors, maybe he figured aside from then handwraps, it was a formality.

Surely the commission should have contacted Top Rank and put a stop to the ticket selling etc and give them a red flag before, rather than turn up to the press conferences and sit there saying nothing etc and then pull this at such short notice?

    Its unprofesional, on all parts

If what is being said is true then the NYSAC may well have left themselves open to a very large lawsuit.

Yeah, I agree. It's the fans that get shafted here. And there's a little part of me that feels sorry for Margarito. I know he wants to fight but I just see disaster looming.

I know what your are saying, if he went blind in the ring then that would be a travesty

Part of me wonders what HBO think about this. Would they care if he went blind in there? It would certainly make for dramatic TV but maybe they have been assured by some doctors that its fine

As for feeling sorry for him, nobody wants to see anyone going blind, but whats his motivation? I dont think anyone is forcing him in there. I also hope its not part of that mexican macho bull****. He got a sack full of money for Cotto, Mosely and Pac, not to mention all his other fights so why is he risking his health? Surely hes got a few quid put away

This is what Melvina Lathan had to say back in September...

Melvina Lathan, chairwoman of the NYSAC, said she reviewed the hearing notes from Margarito's relicensing application in California and didn't see anything there that would cause her to turn down his application in New York. She is also honoring Margarito's Texas license, which he got for his fight against Pacquiao at Cowboys Stadium last Nov. 14.

"We're giving him the same opportunity that we give any other boxer who comes to the state to fight," Lathan said.

So now suddenly he's not getting a license? It's both the promoter's and commission's fault IMO. And what's this about a UFC/NYSAC lawsuit? I don't follow MMA so I wouldn't know but apparently that could be someohow linked with the NYSAC's decision to not license Margo.

End of the day it's all just a big cluster****. Not good for the sport :-(

surely it should be held at the nearest possible place eg: the nearest american state

this is so the fans can get to the place , also arum should supply buses or trains free of charge for those fans who have bought tickets for the fight so they can still get to the fight

The UFC is suing New York State over legislation that currently bans MMA in New York. Nothing to do with the Commission that I believe has been openly in favour of legalising the sport. Dunno how the lawsuit could impact on a decison to hold a boxing event.

Most of the other states in New England are strong commission states. If New York says this guy's eye is too busted to fight then the likes of Connecticut are not going to ignore that.

That was only related to the hand-wrapping issue. Margo’s eye injury was a separate factor.
