In fact, King was ranked only #8 in a recent list of boxing's biggest powerbrokers, however, DKP confirmed on Thursday that Jones-Trinidad attracted more than 500,000 buys, making it one of the biggest boxing pay-per-view successes in recent years. Reached on the phone in Mexico City, where he was officially announcing Peter vs Maskaev for March 8th in Cancun, King told Fightnews.com, "Roy Jones Jr. proved he is still one of the biggest pay-per-view stars in the sport, and I can't say enough about the show Tito and Roy put on for the fans. I urge everyone who didn't see the fight to watch the HBO replay on Saturday night. Roy Jones Jr. is back and look for him to be back in the ring soon. He's on a mission to prove to everyone how great he still is." Official attendance at the Garden for the fight was 12,162.[/FONT]
well 500,000 is impressive....Any Clown who thinks boxing is dead GET A CLUE LOSERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That is a high number. 500k buys equals around 25 million bucks or so, minus the 15 mil that Trinidad got, thats 10 mil left. Then there is the ticket sales added to it, so King did make a few million bucks. How much did Roy make?
The general public doesn't care about great matchups just the names. 500.000 is great for DK, Tito and RJ but bad for everybody else. People spent their money on this and f.e. Pavlik-Taylor and PacMan-Marquez will do sh*t.
This isn't the first time a lot of people have spent their money on crap.Go to a garage sale or a flea market sometime and see the junk everybody is lining up to buy. I'd say good for Jones and Trinidad except for the fact that now that this event was successful finacially, there will be more pure **** events just like this one on the way.
The show did much better than most expected. As well as the quality of the fight itself. Tito and RJ put on a good fight. As well as Golota and Mollo for being the equivalence of a tough man competition. This has to make Jones an even more desirable opponent for a Calzaghe, Hopkins, Pavlik or whoever. Might just make Tito hang around for another fight or two.
