Kellerman: Bad stoppage

It seemed like to me Manfredo was getting his leg back while Chavez, Jr. was missing a lot of punches and then the ref decides to stop it.:huh Manfredo had weathered the worst of that barrage at the time of the stoppage.

 

mustve watched a lot of manfredo - calzaghe fight going in...

 

I had the fight even going into the 5th, and Chavez was already breathing hard. I really wonder what would have happened had the ref gave Manfredo a fair shake. With Chavez shooting his was like that, he could have been in trouble.

 

Every round.

I gave him the fourth.

Very clearly.

 

That was the round where Manfredo hit Chavez with a huge shot.
Chavez did'nt even blink.

 

Manfreda should have taken a knee to regain composture (he was losing on points anyway) so the stoppage is pretty much his fault.

 

With people complaining about bad stoppages, how about the rules are changed to allow the refs to do a 10 count if the opponent does not answer a series of punches. This 10 count would be counted as a KD. This will avoid serious health damage by stopping the barrage of punches and allowing the referee to evaluate the fighter and this would prevent many premature stoppages as it will allow the fighter to recover if he still can.

 

It didn't look like Manfredo was avoiding punches to me, not intentionally at least. It looked like he was trying to stay standing up; and as he swayed like a drunken sailor it inadvertently caused a few punches to miss.

Manfredo was getting his ass kicked, it was a good stoppage in my eyes.

 

I was ring side and it didnt look early.

I thought Chavez looked pretty good in this fight, useful on his feet, and in great shape too. He looked much bigger than Manfredo. He takes too much, but he looked fresher and stronger.

 

I had it 3-1, but the first was close, so even was a possibility.


I think Chavez is cruisin' towards a bruisin' when he steps up.

 

Didn't Kellerman say he agreed with the Joe Calzaghe stoppage?

 

Bull****. Kellerman is a terrible commentator, but he was right about this being an early stoppage.

Fight should go to their NATURAL conclusion, not be terminated prematurely by squeamish referees.

 

If the fight were competitve, I'd agree.
But this was'nt the case. Manfredo showed nothing but looks of discouragement going to his corner after every round.
No need to take the chance and have Manfredo put to sleep and badly hurt.
That kind of conclusion just is'nt necessary.
