I can't see the draw personally so lets have the scores! When breaking it down objectively for me Hendo clearly won rounds 1/2/3. Shogun clearly won rounds 4/5. Hendo 48 / Shogun 47 Breaking it down subjectively, my scoring was: Hendo R1: 10/9 Hendo R2: 10/9 Hendo R3: 10/8 Shogun R4 10/9 Shogun R5 10/9 Hendo 49 / Shogun 46 Shogun didn't dominate round 5 enough for a 10/8 imo. The reason being even though Hendo was manhandled he was always defending perfectly and never in any real danger. Shogun was in real danger in round 3 which is why I scored that a 10/8 but you could argue in fairness for a 10/9 but the result would be the same.
This is how i really scored it R1- 10-9 Hendo R2- 10-9 Hendo R3- 10-9 Hendo R4- 10-9 Shogun R5- 10-8 Shogun 47-47 Draw can't give hendo a 10-8 score in round 3 because he didn't totally dominate it. shogun was able to recover and throw some good shots of his own towards the end of the round. round 5 has been totally dominated by shogun with several full mounts and ground and pound. but if the scores are limited to the number of rounds won then hendo wins in my book no problem. :good Great fight!!! :thumbsup
10-8s aren't awarded for just total domination, they're also awarded if a fighter was on the very verge of being stopped and Shogun was nearly killed in the third round.
to say that shogun was nearly killed in the third round is a little bit exaggerating don't you think? shogun was able to recover and land a few good shots towards the end of that round. hendo was never able to counter back or get out from the mounts of shogun in the 5th. he was already on survival mode, imo. im not taking the credit of a great win away from hendo but i also can't hide my few biases for shogun. the guy's a beast.. i must say i am just fortunate to have followed his glorious career even before his grand prix success at pride...
Shogun's shots had no effect in the third round and he was nearly KOed. If you argue that then yes, you're being ridiculously biased. I'm a huge fan of both fighters, they have world class Chins, they never fight boring, and they don't quit, but Henderson had Shogun in far more trouble at more points of that fight than Shogun did. It was like I said, in a firefight Shogun wasn't going to win because Hendo has otherworldly power and a Chin to absorb whatever Shogun could hit him with.
i agree that hendo's right is really devastating. but i also believe shogun's heavy hands and unrelenting style could take hendo out. what made this fight really great is that they both possess great hands and chins and the fight went the distance and was won over by the slightest of margins. again, im not arguing the decision. there were no losers in this fight and that includes us fight fans. we were treated with an atg of a fight. its just how i scored the fight, mate, as this thread suggests. :good
