Now that i'm out of my sleep deprived sarcastic "war Enzo" haze i'll answer properly. I miss the Hatton days for the buzz and build up (Tszyu onwards). I miss the Naz days more for the buzz/build up and his style in the ring. They're both kicked well into touch by how much I miss the days of Benn/Eubank (with Collins then latterly Woodhall/Reid/Calzaghe) for the buzz/build up/fighting styles and meaning. Middleweight is my division and I sorely miss the division as it was then on both sides of the Atlantic (both 160 and 168). Was Hatton world class - without doubt. Was Hatton worth the hype - yes. Was Hatton as good as he was made out in the media/casuals mind - no. No shame in any of the above though. Overrated by many. Underrated by many. Well regarded by any boxing fan with their head screwed on right.
Of course he was world class. I don't miss the Hatton days though, in fact I became a little fed up with him. I miss the Eubank/Benn/Watson days, but then most people do.
yes i miss the hatton days, yes i miss the naz days, yes i miss the benn days, yes i miss the lewis days---not sure i am going to be able to say the same of any of our current champs (except froch!) in 10-20 yrs though!?!?,,state of the game or just sentimental?
I miss John Conteh. I also missed his prime by a good 15 years of my birth, should've been born in the early 60s so I'd have appreciated him when he was around.
Yeah I guess I do miss the buzz he brought, what I dont miss, is him talking about himself in 3rd person, and seemingly having a higher opinion of his own abilities than his abilities warrant. Hatton's ego became bigger than his talent imo
With all that said he's a much better fighter than given credit for, as too many people access his abilities based on his losses. Better fighter than given credit for, just not as good as he thinks he was.
Its more than that with Hatton imo. He acts like he was Britain's answer to Floyd Mayweather, with in truth, his popularity super seeded his talent as a British great. All this BS about, I'm just a regular guy yadda yadda yadda, we know, we heard you say it the first 100 times you said it. Hatton probably is a down to earth nice guy, but his persona was also contrived to garner more popularity imo. Then you have all these excuses about his losses. Hatton's philosophy is........I'm a 147lbs when the fight is on the table, but I'm a 140lbs if I lose.
You know I reckon they do that? So that the name/ brand(?) appears in the write ups of the interviews...just my pet theory!
