Oscar De La Hoya's Record

Just been flicking through various things on boxrec, and noticed that he never fought against a boxer with a losing record - i.e everyone that he fought had won more times than they had been beaten.

Of fighters that have reached the top level, i can't think of anyone else with this distinction - any other examples out there?

 

I believe you wont find a world champion whose opponents had a higher percentage of wins either. 95% or so if I remember right.

 

It really is a great listen.

De La Hoya probabily has the best CV since Ali. He fought everyone, only missed Vernon Forrest and Winky and i don't put too much blame on him for that either.

 

If only he hadn't ran for the last three rounds in the biggest fight of his career.....

 

It's a great CV, except that he didn't have the wins.

 

Yep, he only lost to great boxers making him an excellent one.

 

People look too much at the 'reds' on his Boxrec CV, he fought who was there.

He shouldn't of ran away against Trinidad, he was robbed against Mosely but got a gift against Sturm.

These are my only critiques to a great and successful career!

 

He was right to run against Trinidad, his trainer was wrong to tell him to do it.

 

I'd look at two reds in particular on his record, the Trinidad fight and also the first bout with Shane, in addition to the ''win'' against Whitaker.

Trinidad - Oscar probably won that fight, but gambled a bit quick on scooting out of harms way. Trinidad wasn't going to knock him out, he was pretty inaccurate all night and Oscar had a decent beard.

Mosley - another fight that Oscar had practically in the bag if he'd been able to keep the fight ''in his domain'' for a bit longer. He won the first half but lost the 2nd by a wider margin.

The Hopkins and Pacquiao losses I'm quite happy to discard, and also the Mayweather one to a lesser extent.

He wasn't a middleweight in a million years, nor was he a welterweight at the end of 2008.

You're probably right.

I could never be arsed to work it out myself, but its fairly impressive!

 

I can only think of Leonard, Holyfield and Hearns as fighters who better Oscar's CV in the last 35 years.

When you consider how popular he was and the fact that he would've made big moolah who ever he fought, you have to give Oscar HUGE credit for having such a competitive spirit.

I also think him getting 'decisions' and losing all his 'big fights' is a little exaggerated.
