What do you guys think of this fight?

I'm actually giving Murray a decent shot in this fight, I know he's been written off by a few people and Rios and his team are already looking past him but Murray has been defeated by only Kevin Mitchell who is a fighter who boxes on the outside and creates angles whereas Rios is a come straight forward fighter which will suit John Murray down to the ground.

Also that loss to Mitchell may have made John a better fighter (like a loss for Amir Khan and David Haye did) and with Rios and his team overlooking Murray the american media and fans who don't know who Murray is will see him as cannon fodder, but they'll be surprised when this appetizer to the main bill becomes a great fight after a few rounds, I predict a long, tough war where Rios will be tested a hell of a lot more than he his corner thinks he will be and with Rios having to really dig deep down the stretch to pick up a points win or a late stoppage but I wouldn't be at all surprised if Murray goes over and pulls it off.

    Your thoughts?

Crap matchmaking. Murray wasn't all that good before Mitchell stopped him. His few advantages, size and strength, are completely negated by Rios being bigger, stronger, more skilled, and actually having punching power.

A complete waste of time from Rios' standpoint.

As for the fight I expect Murray to get bombed out early doors.

Also, suit John Murray down to the ground?

He's coming forward against a better fighter who hits much harder than him with a very good chin. It favours Rios much more, the OP seems to be blinded by patriotism.

I'm not trying to be rude, but you havent given any reasons why Murray beats Rios except 'Rios may have looked past him'.

The key factor in this fight is that Rios is an explosive, hard hitting, come forward pressure fighter, with pretty good defence, with half decent speed and a proven chin at world level. In contrast, Murray is an agressive come forward fighter with less power, less speed, who uses his face to block punches and has been knocked out by Kevin Mitchell, who doesnt hit as hard as Rios.

Rios ends this fight whenever he wants to whether he has looked past Murray or not

Horrible style match up for Murray, as said many times Rios does everything better than Murray, is stronger and can really bang.

Best thing for Murray would be to get stopped early as if this one goes on he could take a serious beating.

A fighter with Murrays style will always find it harder when moving onto world level in my opinion. At the minute he is used to setting the pace and outworking fighters, bullying them, being the bigger man in the ring and taking a lot of punches that he can walk through.

Against Rios he is going to find himself the smaller man, being bullied by a much bigger puncher and someone who has walked through bigger punchers than Murray.

I don't like this fight for Murray but it's a huge chance that he had to take. Shame its against a fighter who has everything Murray has but much more and can do it much much better.

With Murrays defence I think Rios can end this early I can't see Murray lasting 6 if he is in the same shape he was in against Mitchell

Good to see everyone sees it the same way.

Horrible mismatch in terms of levels and styles, and a complete waste of time.

I would be surprised if Murray lasts more than 3 rounds.

I just dont get it Flea. Murray is nothing more than a stay busy fight. An easy fight after Acosta and Antillon.

I think Rios goes straight through Murray with ease, everyone else has pretty much nailed how and why it's going to happen

Remind me, how many times has Rios fought this year?

Maybe if he wasn't cutting so much weight he wouldn't need easier nights?

When was the last time a boxer got knocked clean out then in the next fight got a world title fight?

Not counting Lennox Lewis as he was a world champion before and it was a rematch.

Rios within the first 3 rounds, I like John but he hasn't got a chance, stylistic nightmare at exactly the wrong time in his career.
