Oscar De La Hoya's Record

Oscar put together a ****ing great record, the guy fought everyone.. he gets a bit of stick nowadays but one thing he did have was balls and a lot of talent to boot.

 

Yep, as sportofkinghas said Laporte had an immense resume as well one of (if not THE) greatest chins of all time.

 

DLH has a great resume. It can be argued about decisions in some big fights but at the end of the day it should be applauded and if more fighters had the same attitude it would make boxing a better place

Best chin Of all time. Can't remember who stopped him, but don't remember him ever being genuinely stopped.

Has a great stoppage win over the also (very tough) Rocky Lockridge.

 

Oscar, had him losing to pea and mosley 1. Had winning everything else until he moved to mw.

 

Lufcrazy- I think that fight could've gone either way. It was extremely close. I'm probabily the biggest Pete fan on here, but i didn't have a big issue with Oscar getting the decision. You can make a case for both depending on what you like. I had Whitaker edging it, but then he was at a stage in his career where he could make you miss, but not make you pay as much.

Arightballsup- I have a friend who's in the stock market. He tells me what he hates most about it is when what's called a 'stock market bubble' occurs. This is when trends in the Market reach a frenzied time of buying and selling. It's selling out of fear and buying out of greed. What happens is, individual investors flock together like a herd of sheep to get in and out. This is called a flock mentality.

Well, you know what? we have the same 'stock market bubble' in boxing and it's one of my biggest bugbears. This flock behaviour of boxing fans, where everything that's said is taken as truth because a crowd flocks together and runs it, repeating it incessantly.

This is the case with Oscar and him getting 'big gifts'. It's exaggerated because of the flock mentality. Let's analyse it a little closer.

His first real close fight was against Pete Whitaker, like i already said it could have gone either way, because as Whitaker didn't make Oscar pay enough for missing, so he probabily closed it out and out-hustled Pete enough.

On to Trinidad, he wins 8 rounds in a row, puts on a clinic. An absolute schooling of a monster and gets jobbed.

Then we move to Quartey, his second close fight. Quartey has a very good case, but Oscar gave himself every chance by finishing big by scoring a 2 point round in a fight that seemed up for grabs.

We have Mosley in the first fight, He loses a close one in a great fight (I had Mosley by two). At this point he's been jobbed once and two close fights could've gone either way.

He faces Mosley in a rematch, wins and gets jobbed again. He's now been jobbed twice.

The one real gift he gets is the Sturm fight when he's fat and out of shape. I'll give you that one. But it's not as many as you would think when people go on about Oscar getting all these gifts.

So all in all Oscar was robbed twice, given one gift and finished/hustled like a SOB on two occassions in fights that were up for grabs.

Now, Oscar was the golden goose, so of course the 3 letter network wanted him to keep winning, which unfortunately brought out the poms poms in public. But what's percieved is not reality, when you look closer it's just flock mentality.

 

The best Oscar's ever looked, IMO. was at 140lbs. He was just so sleak and sharp. Just a shame he left the division so soon.

I'm not saying it was a robbery; I can understand the case for oscar winning. Nothing changes though; I still had him losing to pea and I still treat it as a loss.

Totally agree about oscar at 140, his 2 victories there were great as well. I think he's a h2h great at that weight class to be honest.

 

If a fight is really close and can go either way I give the official decision the benefit of the doubt.

 

I believe, just officially, going by WBC/WBA/IBF and WBO, Oscar is 20-6 against former/future/current world champions. That's 26 of his 45 fights going against major titlists. They were very confident with him early on and he was very confident in himself later. :deal

I was watching the Ruelas fight last night, Flea, and the commentator said to remember they both have suspect chins. I found it funnier than watching Pac at something like bantamweight and the commentator mentioning how he looked very small for the weight class. And Howard Cosell commentating on one of Tyson's amateur matches, saying he was never going to be very fast, because of his body type.

 

Oscar was a ****ing great fighter back in the day.

Yep. His only problem was he couldn't fight through fatigue. I loved his stance and ability to hook of the jab.

 

Very ****ing annoying wasn`t it!If I remember right it was the night of the sky sports extra farce as well.Cant quite recall what happened with that just that it was a farce and cost me money.
