All that I have been hearing is the Roy has lost a step in the speed department and being a big time fan I thought, "maybe Im being one sided thinking that he looks the same". So I started looking at older video from when He was in his "prime" (90's) And the only thing that I see that he is missing is the flurry for the KO. I don't think he is missing speed or power. He just doesnt seem to care about the KO as much. I just dont see the speed loss. Maybe footwork but very little. He still has vary fast feet for a LHW. He still has the power and fast hands. Am I on to something or am I on something?

P.S. He will be a champ again if he wants it.:bbb

    Agreed.

It's not just about hand speed. That's still there. But his legs are shot. And that's what enabled him to move in and out of spots quickly in his prime. He can no longer do that. And his reflexes are also gone. He used to be able to get out of harms way because of his legs and reflexes. He has lost both.

But he can still put together combinations as well as anyone in those rare times he decides to throw them.

He has much more of a tendency to lay on the ropes and to block shots with his arms and elbows than the Jones of old in order to compensate for lost reflexes. That said, he seems to be getting a little bit closer to Jones of old each time he fights on this comeback run. He also starts slower, which I don't think can be improved on much (using Hopkins, Foreman, past prime Holmes & other old fighters as the yardstick). The above said, I think he has the power, speed and footwork left to make one last good run at it.

On a night where he is inspired, I'd pick him above almost anyone near his weight class except a huge volume puncher like Calzaghe. I know I am in a minority here, but I think his counterpunching and speed would give Dawson fits. Actually, I think he'd do best to fight at 168 at the end (he would have a big power and size advantage there), but don't know if making weight for the year or so he has left in his career would be a huge problem.
