BUT HOW THE **** WAS THIS FOR THE VACANT WBC SUPERMIDDLEWEIGHT TITLE AND THE WBC LIGHTHEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP HELD AT SUPERMIDDLEWEIGHT!? HOW THE **** DOES THIS MAKE SENSE!?!?!

 

Leonards handspeed was extraordinary. Not only was he very quick, he also generated a lot of power. Such power is not evident in other fighters with exceptional handspeed.



When talking of Great Fighters, Great Finishers you got to include George Foreman.

A lot of guys wants to throw the final BIG punch too much and end up missing and missing and missing... Even some guys that are great finishers ! Leonard was in a class above. He dismantled Lalonde in that video.

 

I am surprised nobody mentioned ROBERTO DURAN here!!

Neither Mayorga nor Vargas were ever the same after Tito finished with them though. They both showed a lot of heart and they paid for it by having their prime shortened.

 

It makes perfect sense when you consider that the sanctioning bodies are corrupt as ****. They saw an opportunity to make a few extra $'s and attach their worthless title to a superstar.

The way he went after Leonard when he hurt him in the 2nd round of the first fight gives me shivers. I definitely wouldn't want a madman like him chasing me down in the ring.

As I recall things went down like this: The SMW was formed a couple of years before and WBC thought of it as an unneeded division. However a chance came for Leonard to become 5 division champion if he fought their LHW champion at 168. Since that weight is still within the LHW limit, ie not an above catchweight, their logic enabled them to sanction the fight as the first WBC SMW title fight as well as Lalonde's belt at 175.

Of course it was just a bull**** excuse for the WBC to pick up a hefty sanctioning fee from boxings golden goose Leonard.

The irony for Leonard in this debacle, is that his archenemy Thomas Hearns had picked up a belt at SMW about 2 weeks earlier making HIM the first 5 division champion. Hearns' belt was the at the time very lightly regarded WBO belt.

 

I don't know how much I buy that. I've heard it many times before, but Vargas was young and still had great fights and gave even Oscar a good fight.
You could say Quartey wasn't the same after Oscar dismantled him in the 12th round of their fight, since he lost to Vargas after and didn't look like the same fighter.
