War Cotto!!!

 

Just rewatched Cotto v Clottey.

Very good fight.

Both men had to come through a few difficulties with Clottey losing his balance in the first round and getting caught with a super sharp jab to give a 10-8 round, Cotto getting a bad cut in the 3rd then Clottey falling in the 5th to potentially give him movement problems for the rest of the night.

I honestly can't remember how I scored the fight at the time but on this viewing I scored the fight 115-112 to Clottey. There were a few rounds that could have gone either way but even as a Cotto fan, I'd admit it was still a robbery due to a very wide scorecard of 116-111 that doesn't even add up and the fact that once again it was the champion, home fighter and favourite that got the benefit of the doubt.

That said, Cotto did very well to come through the fight. At times there were flashbacks of the Margarito fight where Cotto was forced onto the back foot and at times looked vulnerable to uppercuts and punches in bunches. Clottey may not be as big a puncher as Margarito though and this is why you probably have to favour Margarito again in their upcoming rematch.

What is interesting to me though is that regardless of what I think, Cotto 'won' this fight. If the upcoming fight against Antonio Margarito lasts the distance, Cotto may well get the benefit once again.
