This was the first time that I saw a fight of his in full on TV, and instead of going the route that most people are going with 'he's nothing special etc. etc. etc.'. I actually like him, he's certainly not the best around and not the division's saviour like many were ignorantly putting forth(as if we didn't know that already, he's undersized). There is a lot of good in him and he can certainly improve to a certain point. Great workrate, entertaining style, top 5 ability, willing to dig deep and work for a victory and what seems like a solid enough chin. Needs to improve defensively, a lot, but I noticed that even from clips. All in all, I look forward to his future fights. I'd pick him over anybody but Wlad and Peter, including those two overrated jokes in Ibragimov and Chagaev.
My question is why is young Povetkin going to be rushed into a fight with Wlad this soon? This was only his 15th fight for heaven sakes. He needs more seasoning instead of rushing him into a fight with the best HW since the prime Lennox Lewis. Klitschko is veteran with too much experience in big fights. Povetkin managed to look good against a guy who is impossible to look good against. Chambers is not an aggressive guy and did not unleash all of his ability on Povetkin. Of course the russian's great workrate certainly had something to do with this. Chambers showed good handspeed, good durbility and very accurate punching. The problem is he is not a busy enough fighter. Povetkin still could turn out to be a special fighter. He has a phenonemal workrate which shows he is in great condition.
From what it looks like, now I think Ibragimov would be a good fight for Povetkin. I see those two about equal. Ibrag Povetkin would be a pick em fight, in my opinion. I agree that Povetkin is being rushed up way too fast. The guy even said, himself, that he has alot of work to do before he faces Wladimir. Yeah, like about two years worth of steady fighting against other opponents.
Well AP proved he has heart and he does throw a high volume of punches and does seem to have a chin so he could defn be a contender
Chagaev and Ibragimov are good fighters. Chagaev especially has good power, defensive skills, and chin. They are both more advanced than Povetkin at this point.
On another note, what does everybody think of Nostradamous and his 2012 'make a choice or perish' prediction that is backed up by a good understanding of astrology. Personally, a load of bilge that would have worked in any time period, but his astrology picks this time period as if technology and the religious status wouldn't have changed, showing him to be a genius. As such, I don't think 2012 is going to be any different than any other year, but Nostradamous earned me as a fan of his style. Sorry, a bit drunk and high.:yep
i don't understand why people are dogging povetkin. he did look sloppy at times, but he was fighting eddie chambers, who, believe it or not, is actually a good fighter. povetkin was getting popped with the jab and the overhand early, but he adjusted and started circling, threw the one-two up top and the hooks to the sides and to the body and went away with it. he adjusted and started fighting in a crouch, punching up at eddie. the guy is versatile and he's managed to shut down some good opponents, making them just about stop throwing punches, and that says a lot. i think that if he can keep from following klitschko around the ring and getting smacked with the jab (and yeah, povetkin has the lateral movement necessary to do this,) he could tire wladimir out and maybe stop or outwork him in the late rounds.
They're dogging him because everyone is constantly expecting the next Mike Tyson or slightly lesser and he's just not coming. I understand it with the hype involved, I hate hype jobs. But unlike hype job jokes like Margarito's and the lot, Povetkin is actually a good fighter and one with merit and an entertaining style. He deserves credit and I wish everybody would be content to watch him develop and enjoy the fights for the what they are. Tonight's fight was certainly a decent bout, both guys had skill and good shots were traded, even with the flaws involved, which in this division are going to be plentyful. Can't we all just be nice people sometimes? Without nasty bias?:think
The thing is Povetkin won't see the late rounds if Wlad lands what Chambers landed in the first 3-4 rounds. Povetkin will be KOed.
But I'm only biased against a certain type. Such is 'garbage that is recieving unwarranted hype'. Not good fighters, just pure trash like Amir Khan that will never accomplish anything. I'm not even that biased against the overrated Paul Williams, who has some merit to him, but I do feel he's due for a loss soon and it's ridiculous people are claiming he's some kind of 'future ATG'. He's decent and his style is pleasing.
Yes. I fail to see the rush to get Povetkin's head taken off. Maybe after this fight, Povetkin's manager will see that even though they have won the eliminator to fight the Wlad Ibrag winner, they are clearly not ready, and should look to other fights, first. Then if Povetkin shows considerable improvement, then pit him against the Wlad Ibrag winner. But I've not heard of anyone doing that before, but it would make the most sense, cause as they are now, Wlad takes this guy out and destroys not only his unbeated record, but probably his confidence, along with it.
