    1. If floyd had 5 fights at 160 and wins them all vs ranked middleweights ... he wouldn't be an underdog ... 2. Mayweather hasn't lost fighting at a world level and he's been contending at the level for 13-14 years .. its a totally different scenerial

I just checked the ranking is and Floyd is inexplicably at number 2 (shows how often I check), so yeah, he goes to No 1 if he beats Pac anyway. No way he should be No 2 based on one fight against Ortiz in nearly 18 months though. I doubt most boxers really give a **** about p4p but the likes of Sergio and Nonito must wonder how Floyd retires, goes on vacation, loses the urge, etc and is still above them. . .

how can you possibly be pound for pound for "years" when you were retired or on vacation for most of them?

When May goes up and beat Martinez at 160, yes, for now Marquez is the #1 P4P fighter in the world.

Inactivity? ... that's ridiculous. ... if inactivity is the issue then don't rank him at all ... once he gets ranked he can qualify for the top spot ...

I would agree with Pac being demoted from P4P #1 if he had lost or struggled with an ordinary fighter, or a guy who was just decent but Marquez is a P4P top 10 talent himself and whether any of us agree with it or not, Pacquiao got the decision. Struggling and beating a top 10 fighter, abeit narrowly & controversially, isn't justification for moving him down in my opinion. Now if he'd struggled with a lesser fighter I'd be all for demoting him.

You really look at the RING as your guide or something ?
After Mayweather beat Shane Mosley they had him P4P #1. A little bit latet Pacquiao beats Margarito and he is suddenly p4p best and nr 1 welterweight.
    Mosley KTFO Margarito...
They have decent divisional ratings but thats about it. Ward at nr 10 ? Cotto got in after he beat Mayorga :rofl

No system is perfect but the Ring is recognised as the 'official' ranking so it would be dumb to discount it (and I did say I hadn't seen the ranking for ages). Either way Floyd has to do a damn sight more than beat Ortiz, Mosley and JMM in the past 4 years to even be anywhere near top 5.

thats a little harsh, he was number 1 when floyd retired, after being lucky vs marquez 2 he became but not very clearly.

    - then defeated diaz a division up in dominant fashion (take in mind from 112 to 135 is already impressive for any boxer, also he was considered to have a few fights left.

    - gets cherrypicked by Oscar, huge underdog everyone thinks he getss topped early, moves from 130-147 in 8 months, yet destroys him, oscar looking bad is his own fault(cherrypick backfiring).

    - Moves down to face hatton, we all wanted to see that, pac is hot news then, he isnt floyd hatton is the bigger guy might be to strong, most people see this as pac wins late tko or ud or hatton stops him, yet gets brutally ko'd.

    - moves up again, faces miguel cotto at 145, cotto has been beaten by marg has a belt and had a close war with clottey, still its cotto, bigger guy, good jab, bodyshots, a lot of people not buying the pacman hype, cotto is going to end it. Great performance by pac in a good fight ends it.

    - everyone screams for pac/floyd, negotiations fall trough when floyd asks additional testing cause what pac is doing is " like me facing the klits", he fights clottey who comes from the cotto fight and shuts him out in a dominant ud, easy win.

    - moving up again, 150 vs antonio margarito, oki the belt is bull**** and not a legit 8th title at this moment, also margarito should be banned he doesnt deserve this fight, people are pissed, they want floyd. but where is he? they give him a deadline but he lets it expire, floyd says he has no urge and goes on vacation till he dcides to comeback, the logical fight is the number 2 guy in berto but bob keeps it inhouse and gives us pac vs marg, marg has a 17 (?) pound weight advantage and a huge height and reach advantage over the little guy but pac destroys him and his eye but takes punishment, especially by the big bodyshot in round 6.
150+ turns out too much, he moves back to 147.

    - now, bob realizes floyd might get back at any moment so he matches pac with shane mosley very quick, a pure cash in cherypick since mosley looked crap vs floyd and sergio mora and hasnt won a fight since marg in 09, people still want floyd but he is still on vacation, then they want marquez, bob and pac say its bull**** nobody wants to see marquez nor does he deserve it! then maybe still ww number 2 in berto? No mosley is the choice and it turns out a cherrypick sparring match, really crappy from both guys, pac dropping him mosley running and pac cruising to a win while looking clueless in trying to catch shane

    - After that the current fight with marquez happens, nobody nees an update at this point.

Overall: since being lucky vs marquez becomes number 1, makes this position stronger by moving up beating diaz, moving up 2 divisions again vs oscar in a huge money fight, moves down destroys hatton, moves up destroys cotto, beats up clottey. now the cherrypicking starts, margarito at 150 is oki but the belt is bull****, mosley is a cherrypick and marquez 144 is an oki fight that he lost according to most people.

floyd has a claim at 1 when he beat mosley, lost it by his inactivity, came back very high after his long period off and beating overmatched victor ortiz, pac arguably losses to marquez but stays 1 by ring.
At this point either you respect that or say no way floyd is number 1 now regardless of his inactivity.

Its the style and size factor that make pac an underdog, say hypothetically he moves up to 160 and is winning vs guys but the style that bothers him is bigger guys witha great jab for example, lets say at 160 is an inactive thomas hearns fighting there, most people think he beats floyd to a pulp yet he is inactive while floyd is active a lot and has accomplished more, the logical thought would be well that thomas hearns dude needs to fight him and win to become 1, or floyd needs to lose badly or he needs to become more active and make it clear who is king.

Inactivity has nothing to do with what they've done and can still do ..granted he's not active and get removed ... he schedules a fight and rightfully still isnt ranked .. he fights and he's still the same fighter ... why not give him the spot he had before he left ... he's not fighting to prove who he is ... we withdraw from ranking him because we don't know if he still has it

A no 1 P4P fighter has to lose for the rankings to alter or does that change for Floyd ?

What if the guy that's threating the p4p champ from the top spot shuts out the guy that made the champ struggle ? ... then what?
