If he loses to Machida, is Jon Jones still the 2012 fighter of the year?

If Jones loses - Dan Henderson is a shoe in for FOTY.

It's not unfair, since he can make the weight.

What is unfair is jackasses having him #3 on the P4P lists.

That is where his size advantage should be taken into consideration.

Plus he doesn't fight 1 or 2 weight classes below where he should.

I wouldn't complain if Frankie won FOTY but I was just pointing out that if Lyoto could beat Jones in spectacular fashion - regaining his title in the same year he retired Randy Couture in spectacular fashion - he could steal that designation.

Wins over Maynard< vs Win over Couture/Bones.

Nice way to jinx a fighter right before a big fight.

He is for sure fighter of the year after he destroys machida

    Destruction of Machida is assured.

Bader, Page, Shogun, and Machida in a year.
    What an animal.

First of all, this is 2011.

Second, no... if Jones loses he should not be considered fighter of the year. Hendo should easily take that. Hendo already has a great argument for it as it is. However, if Jones wins it should go to him.

Again with this ****? What do you want? Height and reach classes? Jones generally cuts to 205 from between 215-220, which is totally normal for the weight class. In terms of mass, which is how the classes are actually demarcated, he's considerably smaller than a lot of guys at 205. If "dwarfing" your opponents produces an insurmountable advantage, why aren't the other tall guys like Diabate, Bonnar, Gustafsson and Kingbury dominating the entire division? Why isn't Struve the HW champ? Why didn't Kendall Grove clean out the Middleweight division? Why didn't Tamdan McCrory make it off of the prelims before getting cut from the UFC? Should Miguel Torres, who's a 5'10" Bantamweight with a 76" reach be fighting a MW or LHW because he "dwarfs" his opponents in spite of the fact that he walks around at about 150 pounds?

And why isnt Anderson Silva dominating the MW division when he cuts from 220 lbs?
I understand where you come from and i agree if you can make weight then why all the fuss? Bones could cut from 300lbs i dont care as long as he makes weight then its all fair

Silva doesn't cut from 220. He walks around at 220 in between fights. Most of the guys who fight at MW weigh 210-230 when they're not in training for a fight. I just read an article about how Bisping started his camp for Miller weighing over 230.

I think that there are reasonable criticisms to be made about weight cutting in MMA and combat sports in general. I've just got a problem with people singling out guys like Jones and Silva based solely on their body types when they aren't even particularly large for their respective weight classes. If you want to start giving people **** for being in the wrong weight class, I'd go with Gleison Tibau first. That guy looks like a ****ing Middleweight compared to his opponents at 155. Regardless, it seems pretty silly to call anybody out because the vast majority of fighters in MMA cut weight.
