I dont cut my hair for religious reasons (Sikh) and so I have a pretty big beard. I am allowed to compete but am required to wear a type of hairnet around it which is very uncomfortable and ineffective. In a few of my fights I have almost been disqualified for the hairnet moving around, usually into my mouth which makes it hard to breathe.

Anyway does anyone else compete in Amateur boxing with a beard? If so what do you do about it? Also why is it not allowed in amateur boxing but it is allowed in professional boxing?

I'm not very good at boxing but I reckon even I could beat a beard.

Thats the rule here to (Canada) but I believe an older Sikh boxer fought the rule and got them to allow him to fight, I did have to get a not from my place of worship to prove I kept my hair for religious reasons

Something to do with cuts. Probably that facial hair will cover up a cut SOMEHOW

Im Muslim and with a note from an Imam, Boxing Ontario allows the keeping of a trim beard. I dont think there's any advantage, or padding. The whole shaving business seems antiquated. I know you hear "it causes abrasions" but Ive yet to see any data or evidence on the issue, as far as amateur boxing is concerned...

I did the same as you, getting a note from my temple. I'm from Ontario as well and heard some story of a boxer filing a lawsuit against them after a fighter was cut by a beard, though it seems unlikely.

The main point of this thread was to see what any other boxers who competes with a beard does with it.

see like the purpose of religion is to make sacrafices that normal society dosnt have to.

    as jesus said

46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47 And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that?

with religion you sacrafice to better society, you dont do what society asks you to, you do more then what society asks, thus is the burden of religion.

if your religion forces you to grow a beard then your sarafice is amature boxing, dont work around it or punish society because of the choices you make as it would be nothing but proof of the resentment for your religion.

deal with your beard and have faith in the religious choices you make, as it is solely your choice to accept the sacrafice that god requests.
