Vargas was a little before my time and have not seen much of his prime career Id like to favor Vargas being much bigger and violent and hard hitter but I dont know Manny has done some crazy things in the ring 60-40 Vargas but im not sure
If they were even close to the same size, Pac would stop Vargas in the championship rounds.... But in the real world, Vargas is a very very strong and tankish 154lber, and Pac doesnt even weigh in at 154 for 154lb fights Vargas would UD or stop Pac late, too big, too strong, and with actual quality to go along with that size. For the record, Vargas would have beaten Cotto, Clottey, and Margarito as well. Every great fighter has a ceiling.... and welterweight is pacs, imo. wouldnt be a blowout though. Early on Pac would do well with his speed and bouncing in and out, but I think Vargas breaks wears him down and busts him up until hes laying on enough punishment that Roach would either throw in the towel or the ref would stop it. Both of their faces would be bloody.
Well, Manny is supposed to be a 8 division champion, one of those divisions being super welter (154), a division where Vargas fought at, Pac can be matched against any fighter who fought at 154, and since Pac likes catch weights, we can put him in fantasy fights vs Monzon, Hagler, Jones Jr, LaMotta, Toney, Hopkins at 158 catch weight.
Fernando Vargas was a great warrior that was mismatched against Tito Trinidad... needles to say that Fernando beat Winky Wright, which later gave Tito a boxing lesson... some say Trinidad never took his training serious for his fight against Winky, but just rumors.
They both KHTFO If I recall... Same thing Vs. Pac IMO. (Look this ain't an actual FACT just my observation.) IMO, Vargas is/was not in the same league/class as Pacquiao. So I see the same outcome as all his fight's once he stepped in there with a fighter in the upper echelon. (w/a fighter's mentality) Winky need not apply. (Dude was a turtle w/minimal punching power)
Vargas was stopped by accumilation in the 11th and 12th rounds against two of the biggest 154lb punchers of his era.... You said Pac would put vargas 'to sleep' (something neither tito or hoya did) and would do it in the 5th (about 6 rounds earlier then either of them as well) Was just curious as to why you think Pac would do what they didnt, in that he would put vargas to sleep, and that early. Fair enough on Pac being higher quality then Feroz. The thing is... Both Hoya and Trinidad was taller then vargas, and at the time they fought him, they too were big, strong 154lbers. Not to mention Trinidad went on to have success at middleweight. The point is those two are so much bigger then Pac is not even funny, and both had to go to hell and back to beat Vargas, getting him out of there in the championship rounds. To think that Pac would put vargas to sleep as early as the 5th, I think isnt really assesing this fight or fighters properly.... but its just imo, I was just curious as to why you thought that. To each their own I suppose.
I think it gets really violent at times, but if Pacquiao can survive the first half of the fight and maybe get up from a knockout, he can walk Vargas into punches often enough and start figuring him out enough to land the better shots down the stretch (yes Pac is capable of adapting to some extent; he's no elite technician but he's no brain-damaged hospital patient either.) His footwork would make the difference and he'd control the punching angle better than Vargas, and the difference in handspeed will start to show. Pac by UD in a violent fight.
